Oi chaps, Where is the Top Gear airfield? We need 1200 metres of runway for a vehicle test next Wednesday! Any ideas for the South of England?

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

Ta! We have to run a car with a special train horn mounted to the roof to show how our revolutionary alarm cuts down noise pollution.

Santa Pod/Bruntingthorpe? Sounds bizarre - why have a horn nobody can hear? I guess it needs to be only audiable by those that should, not the rest of the local area..... sound interesting

Looks like we've secured Brands Hatch, five minutes from work! The challenge is getting a diesel Vauxhall Zafira up to 80mph before the start finish straight, maintaining that speed for 400m, then getting round Paddock Hill bend without falling over/sliding off! Our alarms are Broadband sound, locatable, directional and environmentally safe! Imagine, when the dustmen come early, the 'beep beep - this vehicle is reversing' wakes you up, you're not exactly in danger in the bedroom are you! Our alarm is able to be quieter because it is very effective in the danger zone. www.bbs-tek.com

Is that a bit like those sirens some emergency services use that screech out white noise? Better for other road users to tell which way the sound is coming from... or am I barking up the wrong tree?!

The ambulances around Cardiff had those fitted years ago. They did work, it was easier to 'hear' where they were coming from at a busy/blind junction.
It was white noise interspersed with a siren sound.
Haven't heard them for quite a few years now though. They have reverted back to the normal two tone siren.

I'm thinking that two waves, both out of the human frequency range, that converge at a set distance, providing an audible point?

Kind of, it's a sch...sch...sch... white noise. I remember the tests with emergency services from a few years ago. It was similar to our one, but they interspersed it with other farty noises.
