DarrenW's thread about the punctureless tyre just made me think about something I heard years ago and always assumed to be true, although now the more i think about it it seems like rollocks. Its the story of the guy who devoloped an engine that was fueled by water. Acording to the story he got to the developmental stage before one of the big oil companies panicked and bought the plans for silly money. Has anyone else heard this story, and what are the chances of it actually being true?
Anyone?

i heard this story, chances of it being true. i dunno? i heard the technology that his engine was based on, would be impossible to compact into a usual car engine space. i'm sure one of these clever chaps? blownimp or someone, will come along and tell us how they developed a space hovercraft that runs on water when they were 4years old. ;D
but yeah i heard that to.

I've heard this one about the VW Beetle engine that ran on water, there was even a faked video in the US that claimed to prove it where a guy appears to pour water into an aircooled buggy type thing and drives around, but it was of course a fake. There are plenty of urban legends along similar lines, usually stuck firmly in the 'conspiracy theorist' frame of mind. I'm sure you've heard some of them yourselves: the 100mpg carbuerettor that gave an American 'gas guzzling' saloon (with exactly what model of car changing between tellings of the story) incredible fuel economy, much to the unsuspecting owner's surprise, so he wrote to the manufacturer to congratulate them, which then leads the manufactuer to realise that they've accidentally fitted some prototype super-economical carb that they'd been hoarding away for whatever conspiratorial reason to a car on the production line and sold it on, (because that's such a likely thing to happen!), then the next time the owner picks the car up from being serviced, he finds that the carb has been removed and replaced with the standard item, or else a black car pulls up at his house and goons steal it, or pay him a vast sum of money to give them the carb and shut up about it. Classic tinfoil-hat stuff about evil corporations out to do evil purely for evil's sake, although anything about conspiracy theorists possibly sounds a bit rich coming from me! ;D ;D

yeah i have always imagined you sitting there with a sieve on your head wrapped in tin foil. trying to protect yourself from government rays haha.
Ive heard various water car stories, one where just the day before the amazing new invention was about to go public the 2 inventors died one in a lift accident and the other in a car crash in australia...odd how that happened.

Right well you can run a car on water theoretically, it needs to be split into oxygen and hydrogen, and that will make a big bang!
I had a video a while ago with a chap that had his skyline running on water and petrol of some kind, ill see if i can dig it out. Only problem is my file storage up to this point has be poor to say the least!

Hydrogen cell cars work on water.
Lots of conspiricy theory stuff about how the Arab Princes or Texan oil barons have kept baxk the "water powered" car.
Used to know of a guy, and I can't recallw here I came across him or his story, but he ran round in a shabby old hearse and the fuel tank had rotted out so they'd put a replacement one in under the "bed". However the old tank was still in place and held about a gallon or two.
Being a joker he'd roll into a petrol station and use the hose to fill the "petrol tank" up and when he'd got a sufficient group of on-lookers would drop a "special fuel pill" down the filler neck as well. These could be anything from Tic-Tacs to Asprins. He'd then tell the assembled crowd he'd invented a fuel pill which allowed any car to run on water. Thenhe'd look real shifty and say, "no no no THEY have caught up with me...." and leap in and squeal off at high speed.

Google Peter Pellandine and you'll find some interesting stuff on a steam powered car, he died a while back. I have a good friend in an oil company that's told me a few stories over the years, it is the most cash rich industry in the world.

The hydrogen is liberated from water in the first place though, as I understand it.
