...was the first "proper" drive I ever had Just realised! I'd passed my test two weeks earlier, and me and my mate both had Tartan Red/White Minis that we'd bought and rebuilt A memorable drive into North Wales, AWESOME fun! Mine was the one with the chrome grille: 848cc FLAT OUT: Anyone else have a vivid memory of a first "proper" drive? In anything suitably retro?

First drive was in a MKV Tina 1600L estate on an industrial estate. First proper drive once I passed my test was in my dads Volvo 345 (before it became mine) and ended up driving 100 mile in that first evening with Tonycocacola as passenger and got my first taste of RWD fun while getting sideways jsut a few hundred yards away from the house I now own shortly before a frisbee came out of nowhere and hit the side of the car it was all very surreal ;D

That's cool Darren.... My first proper drive was in my little shuvit.... the little remould tyres (which were on it when I bought it) let go on more than one occasion around a series of bends on one of my favourite local roads.... couldn't stop grinning!.... no pics though sadly... only really got one or two pics of the shuv, and I don't know where they are anymore

i passesd at like 3pm on the wed. and i remember that id took the whole exhaust system off the night before, so i came stragiht home, got my mom to phone up the insurance and sort it all out whilst i whacked the exhaust on (pretty much bodged it, but i was in a hurry!) got all of that sorted, and went to start it and i managed to burn out the coil somehow next morning, up at the crack of dawn rummaging around for a spare coil in the shed, and was fitted and out the house for about 8am in the morning. didnt get back til 1am and felt ill for 2 days after with real bad headaches ;D ;D

My first driving experience isn't so glamourous... Having passed my test that morning I drove to College, in the afternoon I offered a few friends lifts home, all is well. Once they are all dropped off safely I suddenly realise what I was about to do... drive across South London,.. at 5pm on a week day,.. and I was on my own in a car for the very first time. A bit of a baptism of fire!

10 years ago tomorrow, i passed my test the next day my car turned up delivered by my brother. fisrt drive was eventful, leaving the estate we were followed by the cops for 5 miles until they eventually pulled us over. apparently we were leaving an area known for its drug dealers. they did a full search and found nothing do this look like a dug dealer's car?? LOL

I'd been patching the old 1.3 Festa up on me mates drive while trying to learn. went off first aft/night; hit walls with the wedgy mk1 aided buy the super perky '1.3' then went 'rallying' like a nuggat and battered an engine mount! Fab Fun. YAY ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I remeber my first drive, i passed my test at 10am, got home and immediatly got into my car at that point. It was a '68 sunbeam stilleto in bright red, vinyl roof and gold alleycats, now if that dosent say PIMP i don't know what does!
Now my parents said no passengers for a while so i could get used to driving, well i ignored this drove to college picked up my mate gary and started driving. I was much more recless then than i am now (hard to belive i know!) so on the way back towards home i overtook a transit down a country lane. He got curse word and tail gated me for ages untill we got to this lnog down hill stretch, he built up his speed and then proceded to over take me drifting on the wrong side of the road round a blind corner! This sh1t me up a little so i slowed down!
We then drove to goowood and managed to catch a ferrari drivers day, this was the one and only time iver ever seen an F40 at full chat being overtaken by an even faster F40 at full chat!
All in all an awsome day, nice to remember

Thrown in at the deep end! I was arranging the purchase of my first and only car, banking on me passing my test at the scheduled time which I did. Drove down in instructors car sort of doing Pass Plus in one mega session to pay for it. The MOT was sorted, there was about a few weeks gap between payment and me driving it back! I got the road tax and insurance sorted, the owner came back off holiday and it was all ready for me to pick up. My dad drove us down in his car and I got in my new motor, adjusted the mirrors and got ready for the ultimate first drive!! VERY busy weekend traffic going from central Surbiton to Wakefield! 209 miles on my first ever proper drive, tailing/overtaking my dad up the M1. The M25 was absolutely gridlocked, was terrifying really. But I handled it. Kept getting odd stares in stopped traffic, got used to it in the end.

been driving 3 years and 4months maybe? first drive after passing my test was about 2 hours after test (had to calm down and have a nice cuppa ) then i got to drive my beast blue mk4 escort ..oh yeaah how exciting. drove off down the road and did a burnout. haha once a curse word ..still a curse word. then went and picked up my mate from 6th form and did some more tear arseing around coventry etc basically being a nob. then went over to girls houses. and could stay out as late as i wanted cos didnt need a lift home. awesome. cars open up a world of greatness.

Passed my test 19 years ago this month...
My first solo drive was in a Opel Kadett 2-door saloon, mid blue, with those 'Rostyle' type wheels... not retro at the time, just a secondhand car... ;D
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

This might take some beating but my first ever drive was steering my dad's '69 Pontiac Tempest with a 383 Chevy and a tunnel ram while he did the pedals.
Next up was my first unaided drive which was at 14 years old at Brands Hatch in a white XR3i, followed by Mini racing at Arena Essex. The Mini had no brakes so it all ended in disaster but it was fun.
I learned to drive officially in my 100E but had to take some lessons in a modern car so I would be ready for a few things when I took my test, namely seatbelts, controls on stalks behind the steering wheel, wing mirrors and a few other things. First day I went out after I passed I broke down. A sign of things to come.

Passed my test in '97, the instructor used a fairly fresh rover metro for all my lessons, but about 3 weeks before my test it died for some reason and he showed up in the SHONKIEST mk4 escort 1.3 you've ever seen! It was on a D-plate and had covered 150,000 miles! He appologised but i said there was no need, it was great! Passed my test in it, and it made me buy my mk3 as my first car ;D My first legal drive in my mk3 escort was cut short after 40 miles as i managed to destroy the engine ;D So i had to wait an agonizing 2 weeks until it had a replacement put in Great memories though

although i'd been driving for three years, my first taste of retro came when, on a first date, my ex let me drive her beetle around a supermarket carpark (i wasn't insured for it, hence no roads).... i blame her for the resulting retro fascination
