Just loking for opinions and or advice
The GSE has a factory fitted sunroof (Tilt and Slide)
Problems are
- it weighs a fair bit
- it wouldn't look pretty without the headlining
- it restricts headroom
- it's got 22 yr old seals (so it leaks a bit and they buzz when it's open)
- The drains terminate in the sills and thats not that clever!!!
So my options are
1. Leave it where it is and try to find a new seal - suffer the weight
2. Remove it all and weld up the hole - now this might look pretty but it would be a lot of weight removed!!!
3. Remove it all and put a glass hatch (pop up in it's place)
Please note 3 was my original prefered option but it appears the size of the hole exceeds all known aftermarket sunroofs!!!
Anyone got any comments or even any better ideas?

If this is the track car; how about making a perspex piece to fill/plug the hole.
Or i suppose you could weld the original tin inplace too if your a careful welder...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Weld up, anything else will be hard to do and keep looking good. (except leaving as it is, but that doesnt go with the spirit of the car.
what you want is the roof from another monza, to cut and weld.

I'd go with the tinted polycarb panel rivetted in place option. Did it on a P6 when the Webasto flew off years ago, worked a treat. Either that or remove it and use a sheet of carbon fibre bonded onto the roof panel...

Yeah but all the UK ones had bloody sunroofs so it's not as easy as I'd like!!!! On the continent they didn't get them as std - cost option only Keep the suggestions coming - like the perspex idea a bit!!

Snorkel scoop on the roof? That would be the 83 cm x 44 cm land rover disco snorkel then!!! I'd need a few more horses to push that through the air!! I was thinking NASCAR flip up brake assists/drivers get out of jail free hatch

Perspex would be the best bet I think. Solve the weight problem as well. You could try n make some device that'll let you open the rear half of it for air...

I am planning to remove mine at somepoint to gain the extra headroom and was thinking of welding a new piece in.

Steve Kiddell (sp?) with that insane 240Z on throttle bodies that I posted a few months back, had a webasto that just didn't work with the car (it was too noisy, esp at the speeds he went, and it leaked!)
He had a carbon roof skin made up and bonded over the top, it looks like a carbon version of a 70's-tastic vinyl job.

Now thats a nice idea - might be a tad outside my budget tho Hmm got me thinking about Vinyl roof now Would go well with the planned paint scheme that might get done one day!!! Kinda like this posted elsewhere recently in case anyone gets deja vue but - lose the black at the bottom of the doors (orange please) - Black bonnet - Black Spoiler tailgate - No bumpers front or rear Now a black vinyl roof would fit right in wouldn't it ;D

Problem solved New old stock Britax Sunroof - pick it up tommorrow...... Bit more than I wanted to pay but it is big enough to replace the old sunroof which is better than any of the other ones I've measured up.......
