"long travel" self build kart
well after a massive youtube binge I decided I have to build myself a kart
so the way it started i decided i wanted to build a large bike engined kart with long travel all round independant suspension all from scratch, so I started rooting around for metalwork in the farm workshop (dad being a stingy typical farmer it turned out we only have rubbish amounts of old angle iron from pylons that have been taken down in the workshop)
however it was just pure luck that i was chatting to a friend that evening who wanted to know if i knew anyone who wanted to buy a kart frame, so 1 day later an much fewer beer tokens than he was asking I had myself a less than ideal kart frame:
so naturally i stripped it of its goodies and set about cutting it up, also spent a while mocking up layout roughly (read as: nowhere even remotely like its going to finish)
;D
I decided that there wasnt going to be enough elbow room in there so i bent and welded the top section up
managed to buy some fleabay front quad wheels in an excited buying frenzy without checking size (they were only a bargainous £6.50 though
saw this pic:
missed this one:
and thats roughly where it stands at the moment due to having no money left because some idiot wrote my 306 off whn it was parked up
still come payday next week and when my insurance money comes through i should be able to get going again I will hopefully have all the bits to start on the front a arms and steering, not quite done enough research yet to start on the rear swingarm/ IRS/ engine mounting position yet, is it possible to use rose joints at either end of the front and possibly rear A arms?
