So, it's my stag do this coming weekend, and we're starting off with a few hours at Brands Hatch on Saturday. It's a BTCC weekend so we'll see the qualifying for that, plus lots of action from the Porsche Carrera Cup, Reanult Clio Cup, Ginetta G50s, Ginetta Juniors, Formula Renault etc. I used to go to Brands Hatch quite a lot with my parents when I was a kid - we saw a lot of BTCC in the nineties, as well as lots of bike events, truck racing, and one lucky time when a friend of a friend offered us a startline box for a Lotus day. However, I haven't been for a few years, so I'm very excited to finally be returning to what I've always regarded as my home circuit (even though I grew up closer to Lydden Hill...) I'm getting quite excited about the whole thing. I've pulled together a few Brands Hatch pics for you from my favourite Flickr stream, ComfortablyNumb. If you've got any pics of Brands or tales to tell, that'd be lovely. ;D

The scariest moment I remember from being a kid at Brands was when we saw some truck racing - I must have been about ten or eleven, and we were having a little picnic by Paddock Hill Bend. A truck came off the corner into the gravel trap, which is pretty big and plenty to stop the average racing car... bit did nothing to slow down the massive rig that was bearing down on us! It showered us in gravel. I probably did a little wee.

I basically lived at Brands Hatch at weekends for 5-6 years, my Dad and I saw a lot of motorsport, and I loved it (except the time I was REALLY ILL!!!). 1987 I'll try and find some more,.. I have a bunch!

I love Brands - brilliant circuit! My first visit was the Grand Prix in 1983 - I think it was the European not British at Brands that year? - me and a mate drove up from the Isle of Wight in my Dad's car, I'd not long passed my test and it was the first time I had driven on the mainland. Scary stuff! We went for the weekend and slept in the car. I now live in SE London and have been loads of times over the years. Have a couple of photos taken at the final round of the BTCC last year - they were celebrating 50 years of the championship....

This picture is interesting has he been tapped from behind or is that a dodgy bias setup on the breaks etc? I think the Anglia got a tap from behind. It got a bit messy though I don't think anyone hit him or anyone else avoiding him as he spun. I seem to remember my dad telling me that one time there he and a load of other people hung about after the proper races to help make up background crowd for some scenes in the film "Grand Prix". I've got a couple of 1965 event programmes from Brands Hatch that he must have bought too. Sadly he's not around any more for me to quiz further. While I'm pretty sure my mum suffered a couple of events with him there (they would have been "courting" at the time) I think she was more concerend about being cold than details of the racing
