I'm sure I started a thread on this a while back, but the search function is throwing up nothing, so here goes again. Some of you may remember a couple of years back when I had my old Karmann Ghia (not the recent '62 but my old '61) I was looking for a Euro spec bumper, and ended up buying a complete rear end off of eBay. The previous owner had the idea of converting it into a bit of furniture, and seeing as I had no other use for it, thought I might as well actually make it happen. Here's how it looked when I picked it up; Weird ashtrays fitted in the wings for no good reason! An example of some of the grot and holes Ashtray hole when removed First thing to do was sort out the rust/grot/holes, so out came the welder of a good friend, and in no time it was looking like this; Meanwhile I started making up the necessary frame for the seat itself; As that's how it stood for pretty much the last two years, as various other projects, moving, housebuilding etc got in the way, and it wasn't a prioirity.

Finally, on Sunday, hit it with some lacquer, stuck a set of lights in, and put the leather seats I build a while back in it; I'm not putting a bumper back on it as 1) I needed it for my old car, so don't have it anymore, and 2) It get's in the way of where your legs need to go. I did however go to the effort of wiring the lights in; Sorry the pictures are a bit crappy.

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

That's pretty snazzy - I hope to do something similar soon - A mate of mine is after a pair of Alfa Romeo leather seats for his van, but generally they sell as full interiors. I was going to take the rear leathers and make a sofa out of them. I might have to steal your idea of using the back of a car to house them!

This just highlights to me that I want a house, so I can build stuff like this to go in it. Top work, and a wicked sofa

I love the effort you've gone to in wiring the lights up. Are they on the house circuit / what did you do concerning 240/12v power?

I love the effort you've gone to in wiring the lights up. Are they on the house circuit / what did you do concerning 240/12v power? No, the lights are run off AA bateries. Basically I just took apart a couple of cheapo lamps and rewired them to suit. That way if I felt the need to take the sofa to a show or wherever which didn't have power I could still run the lights

ahhhhhhh... why do you all keep doing this to me? Mrs S noticed this thread, and also noticed I have the rear half of a mk3 cortina and a Granada scorpio leather rear seat "just lying around"... well, I need a new garage sofa, the last one got a bit too "rat look" for me.. if it moves on it's own its tip time....

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in
