That is the question, as a country cruiser/work horse, to replace the Sapph. A diesel one thats For sale boasting 45MPG got me thinking. Better on the wallet than the 28-30 ish the Sapph is doing. Shouldn't rock the boat really cos the 60k Sapph has been great so far, touch wood, w/o startling performance or amazing economy. Basically wondering if buying a 190 diesel with 140k on the clock would be a good move in the future (and why) and not a false economy?I know little about Mercs but they seem to do well on juice. Why is this?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Cause the engines aren't that powerful...the 2 litre petrol is something totally abysmal like 90 brake. Don't know anything about the diesels mind but they're fairly economical....don't forget that diesel is more expensive, so this offsets the 'greater' economy so might be worth working it out first. I hear 190's are terribly bland to drive though? Not sure Anyway, enough of my randomness ;D

Yes, a dilema but... ...the Sierra is a car you know, merc will not be. Also 190 (nice car that they are) were not as well built as previous W123 series. I would keep your Sierra at present and spend more time on MR2 . *** Just my opinion ***

Good answers, I know the older type like Keefys are ok on juice from what i read around and about. maybe i'll hang onto the sapph and go for a tune up and service when the 3dr is unleashed this spring/summer. Sapph can be fun to drive though despite its 1.8 short falls, got the wiggling a bit at 50 mph last night , scared the cr@p outta me and was too tired to deal with it properly, straightened it up though
