Thought this would probably be of interest to some of the RR fraternity. www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=134615Its a hydraulic ram that fits underneath the spring on a coilover setup and therefore allows the ride height to be adjusted from inside the car while maintaining a constant spring rate, adjustable damping etc. I'm not sure whether they're infinitely adjustable or designed to run either at full or empty. Far from cheap at £750 for a pair of rams (I believe), plus the pump, hoses and coilovers, but interesting and compact none the less. EDIT: just found a price of £1700 for a whole kit, coilovers not included.

Extra unsprung weight as well, might make a difference on a light car like a 7

There must be loads of pneumatic stuff in RS that can lift a car. Bet you could bodge something like this up on the cheap that uses nothing more than cigarette lighter gas and some teflon hose

Yeh they're more for just giving that extra bit of ride height where needed on performance cars than the trick stuff found in proper hydro cars. Still, if you had a bit of money and wanted a suspension setup that handled admirably on the track and could sit on its bump stops on the show field then they'd be perfect. That extra inch or two of ride height would make all the difference. I bet if they were to catch on then prices could fall dramatically. As I said, they're far from cheap but a very interesting solution none the less!

On the suspension setup it's shown on you get almost twice as much wheel travel as spring travel, so a 1.5" lift at the spring would equate to 3" at the wheel.

I was just thinking of Mcpherson struts where it would be pretty much 1:1 While it might be designed for performance applications as you say, it would be a darn sight easier to install as an improved quick ride height adjustment to any coil over converted car compared to starting all over again with some sort of airbag strut set up. WOuld allow you to run softer springs in a slammed car as you could drive at a slightly raised position and still dump it for showing off ;D Hotwire, you Datsun will need this technology

Exactly the kind of thing I've been trying to work out how to make for the front of my mini, but I haven't got anywhere near that kind of cash. I just wan't it so I can run it at a decent height for track use, and still get over speed bumps.
