I'm guessing that you connected the alternator directly to the dynamo wiring - however the dynamo control box disconnects the dynamo when the voltage is too low.
With an alternator you want the big terminal on the back connected directly to the battery positive terminal.

right then. long time no update. managed to fix the charging problem with a lot of help from seths link (ta very much) since then the engine has been apart twice again, once for routine end of running in tighten etc, and another for a MAJOR oil leak. so with the oil leak fixed i thought i may aswell have a bit of a play. so after alot of fiddeling, wire cutting and soldering my interior looks like this! 'no difference there luke' i hear you all cry in unison. but ah theres a little trick here. TAA DAAAAAA i wanted it to have some music but didnt want it all modern on show. comments please

Whereabouts is this? I'm thinking of a series of UK roadtrips next year and this looks like a good place to visit.

had a proper hectic weekend last weekend. couple of parties and triumph spares day, so in the 10 hours i had in between everything i decided it would be a good laugh to replace the diff and rear spring and all rear UJs with spitfire stuff. needless to say it was close, working right up to the limits of my time. but i got it done. so now it cruses at 70 rather than 65 and rolls less than half it did before... oh and gave it about a inch and a bit more lows. il get some pics of it later on when i can get hold of a digital cam.
