a good friend of mine asked me to put this thread up as his 'net connection has gone for a traditional burton, just before he could sign up to RR. anyhows he wants to know does anyone know how to fit a supra turbo gearbox (5 speed manual) onto a rover v8. obviously a bell housing or adapter plate, but who and where makes 'em ? he has the box already. the reason for the supra box is that a rover or ford box will probably turn into porridge when attached to his planned 450bhp rover mill. over to you clever lot

These lads are in Aus but they should be able to help out, they've been the place to go for years for just about any sort of gearbox->block alterations. I had a brief look and couldn't see it listed but just email them via the website and they'll let you know soon enough. www.rodshop.com.au/

...is he gonna use the W58 or the R154 Supra box? I think the W58 (and possibly the W55/57) were on the earlier NA Supras, the R154 was the later turbo one. Serious bits of kit both of them. Here's a site with some comparison photo's Supra gearbox on Ebay now, which according to Matti Toyota is probably a W58

Can he not use a TVR box? It's got the 5 gears and bolts straight up with no messing about with adapter plates etc. There's also a 5 speed Getrag box that bolts straight up if he can find one.

TVR used the Rover LT77 and the T5 (maybe some others) The LT77 will grenade itself with 450bhp for sure. The T5 is better, but the Supra box will take (allegedly) 600 ft/lbs of torque ...and you can pick them up for peanuts. Here's some other options to try

thanks for the info guys, I knew you knowledgeable lot would come up with some solutions. haven't seen his 'box, but it came out of a 88/89 turbo and has a large output flange of about 5-6" across. 450bhp is just on the twin turbos, he picked up a nitrous kit last year as well ;D!!
