right, i know its not retro its a design tryin to be retro, its also mainly driven by old ppl. i had a 2001 75 and loved it lots, lovely car to drive and now they are dirt cheap for a nice car, early ones being built better. heres the thing., i cant do photoshops or anything, id really like another, could you take a 75, and do a cool paint job and wheels/stance? ive always been a fan of satin black since the 80s, add some cool wheels..... so i ask anyone whos bored and good at these there things can you make a 75 retro ish, ive got a sence of humour with my cars, so something a bit tongue in cheek, this thread will die a death unless someone does some fun 'shops, it needs you!! imo they are dyin to have some fun, nato green on chunky tyres? 60s hot rod? the only pics i can add are of my old one so ehre is a couple you will need better ones to play with I'm sure. so, a bit of fun!!

one of their downfalls imo not letting on about the bonneville(sp?) estate. i had major clutch problems with mine i never totaly understood, but a master cylinder built in with the clutch that went causing rubbish gear changes, which broke engine mounts. still was under warranty and better then the vectrs and primeras i was looking at, at the time.

Meh, bunging MG badging all over it is too easy, I'd have all of the MG kit but keep the Rover grill , then paint the car to look like how Rover would have done a BRM version. Think junior Bentley and you get the general idea of how I think Rover should have cultivated their 'brand'. Or coupe it... Rovers suffer from an image problem thanks to the Stanner stairlift crowd. I get that sort of feedback with my R8, nothing a 192bhp Elise VHPD lump won't fix. ;D

While I was researching something the other day, I found out that MG planned to enter the DTM in 2005 with an MG ZT developed by Zytek, missed that at the time. Probably because most of the news was about MG Rover going tits up... Here's what it could have looked like: Anyway, just sharing that cos I thought it was cool. What might have been and all that.... As for the 75, I think VIP would be the way to go, nice and low on some big-diameter flat faced alloys. I'm gonna post this again, because it's always nice: But not them wheels. I like the ones VIP has on his Daihatsu Cuore, but I don't know what they're called. Or where the thread is. So that doesn't help at all...

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Sure, you could say its a cliche, but lowered a lot, satin black paint, de-chromed with some small cream scallops and some suitable wheel style that I cant quite envisage just now would look nice IMO. I'm no use with photoshop sadly, so cant illustrate my thoughts.

I do get a bit peeved by all this "retro" cobblers. Old cars are old cars and newer cars are newer cars. The 75 range was not designed to be "retro" it was designed to to re establish the link that Rover once had with the "Poor mans Rolls Royce" image, something, I believe they acheived with a modern design, good choice of interior design and fabrics etc, etc. Just because you can buy a digital watch it doesnt mean you cant buy one with a dial and hands, which doesnt make a 2010 hands and dial watch "Retro." Ive owned a Club SE 2.5 LTR model which was pure class and an MG ZT 190 which was one of the best drivers cars Ive ever owned. If you are serious about getting one and modifying it, get an MG ZT diesel, chip it, more contemporary wheels and a paint job. PS: They are not mainly driven by old people, I got my SE and ZT 7 years ago when I was 38. Hardly ancient......

I'm 34 and I'm buying a MG ZT turbo. Love the looks of it, especially from three quarter rear view. And its rare as hens teeth here in Norway.

I've always viewed the 75 as having 'retro' styling - there are a number of styling cues harking back to the P4 and P5

I'm gonna post this again, because it's always nice: That's EXACTLY the look that would suit the 75! All it takes is one good car to blow away preconceptions or even set a precedent. Think I might have to buy one soon, might even go for the LWB. Let's fire up the Paint Shop Pro then...

Not 'Retro'? Don't care. ;D 'R*tro' is a much-overused blanket term that gets used to pigeonhole anything old and is now extremely passé. To adopt a term a certain American mag said in the '80s: Stuff 'R*tro'. Dare To Be Different.

lol i was 26 when i bought mine, the general view was "aint they normaly driven by old ppl?" i didnt imagine it. rover had a old persons following for years before, hence the whole new MG wave to bring in younger buyers. the 75 ws neo retro styles full stop. i made it clear this was a fun thread for fun ideas on how to play with a modern car, its just about having some fun with a cheap daily. as a replacment daily I'm very much considering a mg zt cdti which will just get a remap, but as there are some cheap 75's about i fancy a play. its that simple lol
