This is a bit off topic but thought i may get better answers here than on a MX forum.
I used to have MX bikes when i lives in Spain and now want to get back in to it here.
Thing is... i only have a car licence. I am only looking for a 125 or a 250. What would be my options as i'm not sure how the bike licence works here?
Also i want a full on MX bike and find road legal ones to be a bit sluggish. Can a race bike be registered? are there any good road legal race bikes?
Thanks

You can register a crosser for the road two ways.
A daytime running spec just requires a key switch, horn, speedo, stand and road legal tyres and exhaust.
A full spec needs the above, plus front, rear, brake and number plate lights. You don't need indicators if the bike was only designed to carry one person. You can run the lights from a battery, but if you're going to use them for any length of time you really need to fit a stator with a charging output.
Two strokers are a bit of a pig on the road - I ran a KTM 200 - as they're only happy flat out, so they tend to hunt and bog quite a bit. The lack of a cush-drive also makes the power even more on/off. Four strokes are better, but still not made for cruising.
Also, bear in mind the service intervals on the engines - most two strokes are about nine hours use before strip down and rebuild with a new piston - you'll soon rack this up on the road.
Enduro bikes are better, as they already come in road legal flavours, but they're not exactly refined either so don't expect to put too many miles on one. I did a 600 mile round trip on one recently and quickly realised it wasn't one of my better ideas!
Another thing - if you're thinking two stroke - don't forget the joy of pre-mix fuel!
Don't know the legalities of riding on a car licence, as I passed my test back in '93 and things have changed since then.

joe76, thanks for the info, clears allot of questions.
the road legal 250's look good, was not sure exactly how much power they had. def seem like the best option and i guess i could upgrade suspension etc if needed.
