Yo. Who fancies a new project huh? Spring is sprung and the garage is getting warmer… Who wants to go to shows anyway? ;D
First up, this isn’t mine… But wait, my very good friend who I sold it too hasn’t done anything with it and it’s in deep storage, I know more about it than he does so I get to tell the story. To all intents and purposes it looks the same as it does in these pictures, so no worries there.
Longer story cut short is that I ended up in Ohio July ‘08, having brought back and traded my way through a couple of nice US motors I was ready for the big one… My project, my rod.
Staying with friends for five weeks, I went car hunting with my buddy Adam… Made all the sweeter by the fact we went in his 70 El Camino, or ‘06 440bhp Mustang.
After no small amount of searching or mileage we found this 1947 Ford Tudor, fitted with a recon 302, C4 auto trans, GM ten-bolt rear end, GM tilt column and Mustang II IFS. What few electrics there were all came from a new loom and fusebox. In fact the guy must have started with pretty much a bare shell and chassis.
I drove it 110miles back to Columbus and set about righting some wrongs. First up was a visit to JEGS, a few miles from where I was based I bought four chrome smoothies with new big and little tyres, a Grant wheel and some general bits to get me going.
This highlighted the front suspension as being troubled, so I fitted two new ball joints and had the tracking done.
After three weeks of messing about, car shows and general ‘let’s not get busted’ activity I drove it 750 miles back to New Jersey via Dubois, PA and shipped it back to Chatham.
It arrived in early September and I was due to leave the country a month later, not returning for at least seven months. Clive who now owns the 47 called me on the day I bought it and wanted to buy it then, I finally succumbed the week I left the country and realistically I didn’t know when I’d be back for long enough to do naff all with it. Plus he said I could use it whenever I wanted… So it was a no brainer. Clive and I have got a lot of car history, so I sold it to him for what it owed me… And that’s now what he wants back.
The price is 7.5K or near offer… That’s not 6K, so don’t think it will be if you ask.
What you get is a really good base for a lovely driver, it’s got all the paperwork and obviously all taxes and import duties are paid. There is work to do, such as rear shock mounts, there’s no wiper motor or mech and other such jobs. But the donkey work is done and it won’t boil up in 90 degree heat, ‘cos it’s been there and didn’t.
I’m not buying it back because I’ve got other toys and I’m building somewhere to live, having found a reason to settle down. It’s been a tough one to pass over, but I had nearly 2K miles of enjoyment out of it in the States and over the last couple of years I’ve begun to realise my interest is more in European metal. TeamBlitz will testify to how much work was involved with this one...
You can call Clive or myself to ask questions if you’re serious, the ’47 is in Devon and ten minute drive from JCT 26 of the M5. PM me for a number. I don't know specifically what it would need for an MOT as I'm not a tester, so come and have a look at it yourself.
It’s called XX Daisy by the way.
