noticed the manuals rich having a few issues with the large clean area you left behind. i want to make it messy again but like an ant with a broken scent trail i can't quite walk across it i spent most of the afternoon wedged up by the roller door where paul's for sale stuff is piled up - it felt much more comfortable i may need some sort of professional help on a positive note i have made a nice neat holder/tray for all my sockets (even the stupid imperial ones!) so your ocd sensible tidiness may have rubbed off a bit

three months since the last update and probably only 3 or so days actual car time spent in nearly six months many other things have distracted me and i have also not really felt motivated - probably due to lack of progress a fairly vicious circle apparently i have spent the last couple of months studiously avoiding working on the sunbeam as drdick and lard44 can attest to. i have had a monster tidy/reorganisation of my bit of the unit and even brought stuff out of my deep storage facility - found many tools thought lost forever and even some bits of sunbeam leftover from the early 90's anyways there is now too much organisation and tidiness in the unit so i felt obliged to make some mess remember this? told me to do this add some of this and then....... have a long and tedious conversation with the other tenants of the farm about overspray and the implications thereof so this happened while i found more environmentally friendly things to do roll forward to 6pm and as everyone else is foxtrot oscar-ing i got prepared to shoot some paint. then this turns up now much as i like a nice fiat, i had just mixed up a litre of paint, done a test pattern and was about to go guns blazing. chap with the 512bbi ended up chatting for 1 1/2 hours with the mechanics about fitted Spammy spam spam spam, no thank you, man. mostly. i tried to shoo him off politely with talk of overspay but he did not budge. my final ploy was to bore him with my knowledge of michelin trx tyres as found on his vehicle but even this did not make him leave. i eventually gave up and just stood in the background looking crossly at the setting sun after the ferrari left (sounding glorious) i had to rush some paint on before darkness fell. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh aaaaarrrrggggghhhhhh looks ok apart from the horrible runs and a few blobs of water from the gun - hopefully it can be rectified later i only had time to put a rough coat on the interior of the car which may cause problems later it looks like i will need to go over this with a scraper and some sandpaper because of the poor prep work but at least its a start back to bed so loads of dust can settle on the wet paint i used rustoleum gloss ral 9010 (some sort of white) thinned with approx 20% celly thinners. its the first time i have used it and the overspray is very sticky/oily and caused havok with my arm hair and has left me looking like a royston vasey coke head total time spent 403 hours (not including 3 months of solid sweeping and shuffling stuff about - my tool box has never looked so organised ) total spend £3010 (a minty sunbeam trio/Ti with all the good bits sold this week for £3.5k a curse word shell is worth £350 - maths never was my strong subject but even i can see there might be a lesson here )

Holy lack of PPE Batman! I'll rob some masks and disposable overalls from work!
I am thinking of hiring a van next Friday and collecting the stash of accrued parts from work so probably see this in the flesh then!

wearing my usual tramp like garb so felt no need for overalls. stupidly got a paint mask out and in my haste to slosh some white about forgot to put it on, until i was already too sticky. how much tat are you collecting? would it fit in my previa with the seats removed? 18mpg both ways vs hire+fuel both ways - cant do friday though thursday or saturday any good? i will have to try to sort the paint out before then or i will expect much laughing at my feebleness

Exciting~ I don't care if you come back and find the interior of the car covered in a crust of midges, mosquitoes and moths, you're getting paint on it after all this time!

hey Angyl funnily enough i have spent a bit of today in the paint rectification shed after giving it a few days for the paint to harden a bit, i have been dealing with the major issues with my hurried paint slinging. happily most of my major worries were unfounded as the paint appears dry to the touch (so many internet horror stories about drying times!) and not much debris has collected in/on the surface. engine bay, apart from the two runs and a bit of overspray on the black bits is good enough interior is not so good! i only got a rough coat on due to the time/light/breathing issues. the lack of time spent on prep is reflected in how it looks not surprisingly. apart from it being a bit lumpy looking there were a lot of areas where the paint had reacted with the substrate. this seemed to be where there was remains of the sound deadening, exposed oem seam sealer and where the vactan was sploshed onto rusty bits that had not been cleaned back enough. as it needs at least another paint session, rather than just ignore it, i wizzed round the inside with an assortment of wire brushes to take the ugly bits back to bare metal. i then tried rubbing down with a scotchbright pad , then some 180 grit and finally settled on using 120 grit as being most effective. without bare metalling the whole interior it looks to be levelling the surface off acceptably taking into account the way the rustoleum goes on. i only rubbed down the drivers footwell before boredom dinner called, so a lot more to do total time spent 405 hours (not including 3 cups of coffee) total spend £3010 (proper skint and decent coffee supplies are running very low, i have promised myself not to drink any of rich's dirty nescafe but i know i am weak )

Nescafe?? Hope your mate helps you out here :-) l10mcu - drdick appears to have a fairly broad definition of 'coffee' so am not expecting him to be of much use in the kitchenette the ok engine bay and rubbish interior are the yin and yang of being lazy and slapdash not really doing it properly rich - please disregard the above will be interested to see how i handle the (tidyish for once) unit filling up with other peoples stuff, what with you bringing a van load of lovely tat and pauls neverending quest to separate cars from their engines makes a change from you cleaning up around me i suppose though

Can we put a door on it at the weekend? i feel apprehensive about door fitting as i have bad feelings about both the yin/yang style sill replacements and the strangely squashed a pillar bottom. that said - if you want to avoid doing anything constructive on your car, i'm game and i will hopefully be about on saturday/sunday

That's great progress getting some paint inside and in the engine bay, even with the minor issues! Looks so much better now

my least favourite type of 'instant' coffee with lumps in, but at least its lumpy type coffee not the less lumpy stuff and it's 1 million times better than powdered rubbish. why must I appear so ungrateful? I need to have a word with myself.cheers rich thats very kind of you liking your desk ornaments - I hope that's not at work - you need a clear desk to bend your students over when they have been naughty I spent a couple more hours sanding today but have also scraped together an amp, speakers and a tuner for some 'choons', unfortunately my cd player has broked while in storage but i have found a dodgy house type music station on the piece of wet string i used as an ariel
