After floating around in the caprice a while now i can't help but feel the need for something a bit sportier to trash around in. Being on a tight budget, without a job, i thought i might just be able to pull of a 24v sierra build. Of course scorpios aren't too close between (or cheap) here, but in sweden they're a bit better priced (if nobody of you'd like a trip to finland in one ). In sweden they also got v6 rwd sierras. The mk2 version also happen to be rather cheap. And being the lazy slouch i am, i'd much rather get answers to a few simple questions answered here, than to dig up them myself Do the 24v bolt up to both 2.9 and 2.8 gearboxes? It should be cologne engines if it makes any difference. And i need a 2.9 12v clutch, flywheel, release bearing and what more? The engine mounts? How much more work would it be to fit the lot in a 4-pot car? That way i could put it in a cheap-as-chips 3 door. This would make it a whole lot harder to get legal though.. Then i'd also need to retrofit PAS, do i have to change the whole rack for this? Do the scorpio parts fit? Do all the cables fit against the 12v 2.9 loom? ...And everything else i'd need to know to build a fun little daily driver on a budget. Are there any no-turbo ways for more power? Do a 4.0 bottom end do a big difference? Is it alot of work? etc. This could make a good wiki article btw. A big thank you in advance, and some pictures: More pics later, in a bit of a hurry right now...

I'd start with a V6, it'll be cheaper in the end, i had mine in a Cortina, by all accounts with the BOA theres only about 3 wires to connect up to a 2.9 V6 sierras injection loom.
24v will drop straight into a 2.8 or 2.9 Sierra and will fit either gearbox, you use the flywheel, clutch, engine mounts etc from the Sierra, if you fit it into a 4x4 you have to add a couple of oil returns to the sump as the heads on the 24v have drains in them, if it going in a 2wd one you can use 24v's sump. Its just wiring and a spigot bearing in the end of the crank other than that.
Forgot, if you use the downpipes of the granny they hang lower than the Seirra ones so will hit the floor if you lower it, but the granny pipes will mate up to the Sierra system I think.

4 litre bottom end is a lot of work to fit, i had Vauxhall Vectra V6 injectors in my 24v, they give a better spray pattern and will flow more fuel and tend to smooth out the power step at 3200rpm a bit, you can fit BOB cams in the BOA to get more power, the engine should be able to take over 300bhp on stock internals witha turbo, i priced it up at under a grand to set up with second hand bits but never got a chance to try it.

You might find Madoldbugger's site usefully if you haven't seen it before. You need a PAS rack to fit PAS ;D though IIRC it should be a straight swap as it bolts up in the same place.

The BOB has PATS and the ECu gets upset about not getting signals from the autobox so you either need to use a lot of the loom or know what your doing, you can use the BOA loom on the BOB engine but then you need to sort out some means of making the VIS work and BOA looms and ECU's are not cheap anymore.
Downpipes have the boss's in for the sensors so you can either use the granny ones or fit the sensors to the Sierra downpipes.
If possible i'd start with a mk1 granny Scorpio (you can nick the LSD as well then) into a 2.9 2wd sierra, we never get them here in the UK but that will be the easiest swop and you can always transfer all the bits over to a 3 door shell later one.

Sounds like a great fun idea dude. Not much more i can add other than encouragement as popuptoaster is already doing well with the advice! Do put up some more pictures of sierras from up your way, they always do such mental cars in that part of the world

Mine was hitting the rev limiter at 130mph according to my satnav in my Cortina and getting there faster than my mates RS Focus and it was still averaging 30mpg, if your not too bothered about the weight or having massive tuning potential, its a brilliant choice of engine to put into any Ford that will take the Cologne engine.

if you are doing it on a budget use all the granada cosworth running gear as well, you get cosworth front front brakes, 7 1/2" lsd and rear disk brakes, you just need a pair of 4x4 sierra front shocks to fit the granada front hubs as the granada ones are a bit too long. i used the granada cosworth wheels on mine as well but there are loads of aftermarket ones that fit as they share the same 5x112 stud pattern as some mercs and vw/audis

Too bad about the bob engine, they seems to be much more common, i'll have to try to do some research and see if it's something i'd manage. I am sure I saw someone post on a forum a while ago that they were running a bob on Megasquirt - not sure which forum it was possibly Fordpower but that seems defunct

New website for Ford power www.fordpower.org.uk/forum/you need the 4x4 front struts if you use the granny hubs, the granny struts are thicker than 2wd sierra struts but you don't want to use the granny struts as they'll lift the front of the car a couple of inches. Also as far as i remember you cant use the granny rack as its wider.

Also as far as I remember you cant use the granny rack as its wider. IIRC it is the track rods which are longer, the rest of the rack is the same as the Sierra, but I don't know if it is practical to swap Sierra track rods on

I wish we had more three doors over here, some of these are awesome. This one especially: And... Twin-turbo Pinto?

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
