well i missed my slot lost week getting lost on the way so rebooked for this afternoon......got there an hour early, lovely bunch of people let me watch a mk6 escort getting tested then my lil old banger (i have to say i found it more stressful than my driving test) wings passed  suspension fine  ..........blocked washer :? and some rust on the front cross member a bit too close to the suspension mounts, carb also needs a re-tune as it failed the emissions so a few welds on the front cross member need a new washer jet (nick it off the other fester) and the carb re-tuned so I'm shoked and suprised and reccon ill be keeping her another year

yup its a fair garage but obviously safety is safety and they don't want to be held responsible if a suspension arm gives way down the M1

A WORD OF WARNING with regard to carb tuning! A lot of mechanics/garages when they 're-tune' carb to meet emissions are making a right 'hash' of it! I'm sure you have found a good decent garage but beware! I had my '77 MGB GT fail on emissions yet car run perfect and was economical, due to me leaving car at garage(who I no longer use) one of the 'chimpanzees' decided to mess about with the twin SU carbs, result: A mgb that wouldn't pull up a hill! Needless to say I retuned the carbs myself (never needed to till then in 4 years) and car was happy again. I honestly woundered if the mechanic (mechanic used in the loosest term ) had ever seen a carburettor in his life !!! Rant over P.S. Well done to your Fezzy

see - old cars simple fixes. when my aircooled stuff used to fail it was half an hours work usually and back to the test centre. when claire's mondeo fails it's bloody pricey! 'only' £200 worth of engine sensors and suspension parts this time around.
