I saw a mini at RCS last weekend but something puzzled me: the car had an A series engine with 5 port head, but K-Jetronic injection from a Rover K-Series. Anyone know how this was done? There was only 2 injectors (as it has siamese inlet ports), but was hooked up to a K-Series ECU (which uses 4 injectors...) Puzzling... I abandoned a similar project of bolting up a K-jet injection system to my Merc because it has a pesky 5 port head and I thought it couldn't be done - seems I was wrong! The mini was pretty trick - lots of carbon fibre!

Sorry I can not help too much with your particular question.
But I do know that injection set ups on the Mini are difficult to set up. As far as aftermarket goes Weber Alfa is the one to use. I know that DTA does not gaurentee it will work.

Thanks John. The manifold was an aftermarket job - can't remember who made it. The only way I can think to do it would be to hook the ECU up to the two injectors and make it think that it is pulsing four injectors rather than two, twice (if that makes any sense!). He could of course have reprogrammed the brain completely though. On the info sheet in the car it said that he was getting 98 BHP from the engine but maybe a big Weber or SU carb would've given similar power? I've now abandoned the injection project in favour of chucking in a big Mercedes V8 as soon as I find a suitable candidate!!

Are you sure it was aftermarket? All minis made after 1997 had twin point injection

That 98bhp output doesn't sounds like a std injected 1275cc motor to me! Anyone remember the cc size? You could possible get this output from a 1293cc and a fully balanced bottom end, but more likely it's been over bored to 1340 for this. I only get 104bhp from my 1380 with a 45DCOE!
As dminifrek said though - Twin Point injection engines were produced in Mini's registered 1997 onwards - and the base of these inection / ECU units were taken from the K-Series.

I think it was bored out to 1340cc but I can't remember. Could well have been a standard Rover injection system then - I thought (wrongly) than the Mini injection system was single point.

Single point from 1995 (I think) to 1997, then twin point from then on.

I was talking to the guy who built it (or helped buid it). LOTS of money was spent. It was a 1340 or 1380. Carbon fibre: Flipfront Doors Roof Boot Boot floor.

Makes me wonder why he spent all that money on it but still kept the injection......... Any pics of it?

Ah ha...... Your pictures need to be hosted on a webserver first, then just add the url of the the pic using the image link button on the 'Post Message' (fourth button from the left - looks like a painting in a frame) If you're unsure, go to: www.retro-rides.com/articles/FAQ.html which explains how to upload pictures to threads.
