as title really. i understand its a cheap alternative for a fully mappable ecu, and that it uses a lot of standard components comapred to a proper mappable ecu etc. buts thats about all i know. and as I'm eventually going to be running some pinto injection power in the escort the only side of things that i cant really faff with is the inlet system etc, and aside from spending loadsa cash megasquirt seems the only option. cept i don't know what it is ;D anyone care to enlighten me? know any good websites? pictures? anyones doing anything like it? etc etc?

If you are running and injection pinto, its easiest to use the standard set up. Megasquirt is a Standalone ecu. It is open source so all the software and code is freely available. Havent got the links to hand, but there are good sites on Yahoo both usa and UK, with some very helpful people on there, especially Bill Shurvington (Mr UK Megasquirt) Mr Hotwire and I were looking at doing this, and need to organise something soon I suppose ;D I was looking at Emerald or MS for the Kadett, and after lots of research will now go MS with Wideband Lambda sensor for tuning, as the whole WB self learning software and MS ECU will cost less and be up and running sooner without a trip to Norfolk to map it ;D Both systems have their benefits, just MS seems to suit my needs better ;D Sure there will be some more peeps along soon with far more experience than me with it though HTH Dom

Megasquirt isn't an alternative to a fully mapable ECU. It is a fully mapable ECU. The kit costs about $200 in parts and you build it and install the base code. For about £250-300 there are people in the UK will make you one and sell it ready built. As it is US based, it generally uses GM sensors. Luckily a lot of these are used in European GM cars too. Also a piece of software is also available to calibrate the megasquirt to use readings from non-GM sensors too if you know their ranges. The Megasquirt itself is just a fuel computer. The Megajolt does ignition. The Megasquirt'n'spark-extra does both. Depending on which version of the "extra" code you install, you can do GM dizzy less ignition, Ford Edis 4, 6, 8 Cylinder Dissy less ignition, or electronic ignition based on a Dizzy. The "Extra" code can also be used to control boost on a turbo, Nitrous or water injection. The Megasquirt does use batch rather than sequential injection, but it can use two banks of seperatly operated injectors, so you can get high end enrichment (like on high boost huge turbo application) should you need it.

www.msefi.com is the big board of awesomeness. From there, you can find links to all the different aspects of the project. MegaSquirt'n'Spark-E is the tried and true version of the project that is adaptable easily to 99 percent of the engines out there. You can run all the ignition setups, like stated. For what you're doing, MSnS-E with a Ford EDIS-4 setup should be super easy to set up. You can then use a wideband o2 sensor to data log your base map. Plug that dat a into a free program they offer called VexMe and you can set the air fuel ratio you want for every part of your fuel map. It'll figure it out automatically. A little tweaking with the ignition and you're golden.

Hi guys, I've been running my imp with MS controlled ignition + fuel injection since last summer now, have a look at this thread: www.theimpclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3062Theres a link to a write-up of how it all works and what it does, hope it's useful to someone., Cheers David

There is a bloke over here who has modified the Megajolt into a system that uses Ford EDIS parts, a crank position sensor and a throttle pot sensor for his MGB. Have a butchers at www.kimmins.info for further gen. A couple of mates are fitting this to their Marinas and if they are successful, so's mine!

Think our benzboy got pretty far in the building stage before he left off the project and uprooted ;D He was saying recently that now he has another daily retro sorted out the merc can come off the road for its V8 transplant, which should see it running on megasquirt sometime soon!

[/quote] He's just moved into a new house a few days ago, so i reckon anytime now he will be back here The mercs had some work and looks mighty different to how it did last time he was here...... but its probably best to wait for his (hopefully) imminent update ;D Likewise with the new motor...... Wont spoil the suprise but its super-cool IMO
