Now I have a way you could solve that.

send a small child into the boot through the "ski hatch" (rear seat armrest) or use a torch/coat hanger to find them through the hole instead. And ford are a pita for getting keys, especially if it was your last one and you don't have the red master key
|
|
To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Take out the bench seat. Undo the bolts at the bottom of the back rests and the rear seat should come loose. Then you might be able to reach in or send a small child/land mammel in to retrive ones keys.
At least thats how i got in the boot of my sierra sapphire.

Something similar happened to me with a C180 Merc. Battery was disconnected so couldn`t open the boot (different lock and didn`t have a key) or the doors with central locking. Passenger door (with a conventional lock) was up against a wall. Had to use 2 jacks to move car away from wall then squeeze into car (I`m a big fellow) rive out parcel shelf and speakers then with aid of torch and coat hanger lift battery lead onto terminal. Only took about 4 hours ! Good luck fella.

If its a standard Ford type key could you try a different Ford key they all seem to open each other.

Spray a bit of water over the bootlid. Shoulda rusted through in 5 mins Is there not a way you could poke something between the back of the seat and the rear window to hook the seat latch? Although.... if its got foldable rear seats... that'd make it a hatchback no? Nothing parcel shelf related? This is of course, assuming you have access to the interior. Was wondering if the drilled lid would get posted too, haha.

If its a standard Ford type key could you try a different Ford key they all seem to open each other. Not since the 70's!, I know a Ford key will lock any Ford but they won't unlock them. That's a good point about the pacel shelf, If it has one just cut a hole throu it and replace it from a scrapyard.

how did the car lock after you had shut the keys in the boot?? if it just locked.. and not dead locked? you should be able to pump the top of the door open.(use screw driver to start it then little wooded wedges to keep it open..) then you should be able the get a length of wire down in side the car to the inner door handle to open it, the central locking should do the rest?!! if that don't work.. rip the number plate of.. drill a hole were the plate would sit, and get a coat hang in there to pull the keys out!! bit of duck tape over the hole and refit number plate job done!! worked for 5 years as recovery driver, 9 times out of 10 could get in a "lock out".. bit more tricky if it had been deadlocked! and if non of that works.. find some one with a the same type key.. and try and "jiggle"the lock!! ford locks are the worst for ,wair in the barrel! we had a key that seemed to open most fords of the same age!!

if its anything like my old mondog 1996 saloon, the boot could only be opened with the key. Even if the cars central locking was unlocked, the key still had to be put into the boot lock and turned (below rear light), then the boot would just 'pop' open without the use of any handles. No boot pull either. I'd try jiggle the lock with a simmilar looking key, take a grinder to behind the armrest or smash a back light through. You can rive the lock out with a flat screwdriver, but then theres bodywork/paint repair to contend with. Have a pic of said vehicle on its final voyage:

As I said, no other better ideas than removing the rear light cluster (with a hammer). Cheap and easy.

If you have access to the interior, and your central locking in working correctly, then the boot should open by pressing the boot lock inwards.
Same set up on my '99 Mondeo....
