we used to have one about 10 years ago but it rarely got used and never started, we mainly only used our telehandler so it went for scrap i think, now we only ever use telehandlers which is definately the way to go we get a new one every two years.... got into the knack of balancing on two wheels for the length of the grain store last summer, kids eh

I used to drive forklifts, I had counterbalance, reach and VNA licenses, the VNA trucks are funny, they run down Very Narrow Isles between racking in warehouses for picking orders, the whole cab goes up in the air so you can pick out part orders, I used to like scaring the office bods when they wanted to come out and check stock by driving out of the end of the isle without lowering the truck, you don't realise your 40' up in the air when your surrounded by pallets of stuff, part of the test is to abseil down from a supposedly broken down truck stuck at max height, i enjoyed it so much i had two goes at it. Cant remember the make of the big old truck I learnt on, it was a 7 ton diesel powered one from the 60's I think it had proper double truck wheels on the end and a 4 speed manual gearbox, it had lights and number plates on it so I used to drive it up the 24 hour garage at lunchtime when we were on nights with half a dozen lads hanging onto it.

I thought it was just a lorry with a small cab haha so you can see out when your shunting trailers ;D The yard across from my work has one... I wouldnt mind having a go in a geared forklift

Much tighter turning circle than a lorry unit. The 5th wheel is hydraulic so no manually winding up trailer legs every time you pick up a trailer. This particular one has a rotating seat. You can turn 180 degrees and drive it backwards. Clever electrics and hydraulics swaps the steering functions and the direction switch. Apparently if you engage 4 wheel drive, it will pull 200 tons! They have an epicyclic gearbox in each wheel. Monumental torque! Do take some getting used to though.

Is it the sort of thing they have scooting around docks and stuff to move the trailers around?
