righty ho, i never liked mx5s at all, always thought they were a bit gay lame ... but the last 3 or 4 years theyve grown on me, mainly after seeing a few on the floor, nice wheels and looking a bit used and abused. a month or so back i finally got round to getting one, in the least gay colour , handbag white inside is clean enough- seats have been redone in leather at somepoint, never had a motor with leather before bad bits though are the passenger wing has a beefy dent the roof has a split about 3 inches long, not too bad, gaffa taped at the mo, but the rear plastic window is cracked badly. would like a hardtopo b ut they seem to go for a few quid, car lives indoors any hoo so may just go for a new soft top. first think to go wsa the front plate, was cracked anyhow, and i much prefer the imort size plates. bodged a bracket up, new plate £5.99 of ebay, bargain next up was the wheels, i know the wheels i want but not got the cash at the mo. so in the meantime, decided to try degay the ones that are on it, bit of satin black and with the spaztrack decided on a bit of rimming! now at least if i squint, they look like the ones i wanted now, I'm not the most decisive person, couldnt decide if i really like the black wheels, so i did the other side red plan is red wheels, red roof and a red roll bar... as i said, I'm not very decisive. finished painting them, came inside, saw another set of wheels n tyres in the for sale section at a price i could afford, got these on their way now... pics , once i get em ;D yesterday, decided to have a go at the dent being a bit lazy, plan was knoch the worst out, then cover itwith a big sticker! can still feel where it was but lots better, bonus is that the cars been sprayed at somepoint, i had a tim of simoniz, gloss white, bought from stermat for 2.39 months ago, dunno why, but sprayed the wing and its a pretty close match ;D hmmmmm, black or red...... whats the public opinion? off out to play again, got to finish bolting the wing on- both bolts where it meets the sill have sheared off, also gonna spray the bumper, loadsa scrapes in it, will report back later got loads to do to it, the locks are a bit stiff, scared the keys gonna snap. bought a remote central locking kit of ebay for £12.99, but then the same in postage, but still, not too dear. also have had an early birthday pressy of me mate, lowering springs, will try get those on this week too

Not too shabby. I'd go sating black wheel swith the red rim, new black soft-top and red roll cage/bar. I'd also ditch the front numberplate and replace with a stick on one placed on the bonet between your pop-ups. Oh, and lose the wooden handbrake cover and hit it with the lowering stick. You know an LS1 fits with a bit of fiddling!!!

Good progress, rather like these myself For the wheels, my vote is with the black and thin red strip round the outside, looks good to me.

Black wheels, red rim, black roof, red roll bar.
Repair came out well too.
Would have gone for bonnet sticker numberplate myself.

ok... decided, I'm probably, almost definatly gonna do the wheels black and red. the new wheels I'm gonna do red, keep both sets... thats the plan at the mo, will change again before I wake up in the morning no doubt dave, the woody hand brake lever was there when I got it, was planing on getting rid soon anyhow, but got another pressy yesterday which brought it forward a bit ;D 8 ball, gear knob ftw... bit big maybe, and contrary to the latest rumours, I don't like big knobs ;D now dunno about any other mx5 owners, but me mates have proper ripped the pi$$ since I got it. other presents recieved are 2 pink poodles and a plaque he had made up claiming I was hairdresser of the year! tonight I have mostly been...... giving the bumper a quick bit of paint, also decided to tint the sidelights yellow, "because I'm worth it" spent most the day struggling to change the springs, got passenger front one done, learnt some filthy swear words that were in my head, somme were pretty shocking ... hopefully the other side will be a lot easier now I know how to do it, try have a go tomorrow. can never decide if I like sticky no. plates on mx5s, have one on my gt4, but have put it right at the bottom of the bumper, its curved the same as the mx5 one. from straight in it looks and reads fine. may do the same with this one, but for some odd reason, I like small square plates ...who knows, I just cant choose without the pictures!!!

looks good , I feel your pain with the springs I had problems on the passenger shock too, ended up replacing the spring in situ .
top tip is un bolt the arb, compress the spring push down and drop the top mount behind the assembly and push the bump stop through the hole where the top mount bolts on and getting the shock out is easy

ahhhhhh. the prob i had was firstly not knowing that the bolt that lets ya move the hub out of the way was under shock, it was a right kipper to get to, trying tom prise the wishbone with one hand, push the shock back and out the way and undo the bolt with my other three hands, but then after all that, spent about an hour trying to get the bolt back in, fiddly little curse word. reckon ill be better on the other side now i know whats what- famous last words there

well.. the mx5 bashing has continued. other birthday pressies included pink fluffy dice, a pink handbag shaped tax holder and a hairdryer! tw@s. also had me a rr visitor last weekend, gav in the datty ;D datsun sandwich anyhoo, done a few more bits , fitted the coilover springs ride is much firmer, doesnt roll at all now, kinda rock hard though, I think its prob a bit toooo firm , must be gettin old the cars dropped, but not by much , its come down by about an inch and half- want to go much lower than this though. in other news! got my some more wheels, thanks to, lewiswilkinson- bought these. same size, 15x7 but have a nice bit of lip on em. plan was to paint them red, but last minute change of plan and they are now mattblack the wheels are some sorta fake splits, at somepoint theyve had the plastic bolts drilled out. look a bit odd though so I replaced them with some small galvanised bolts . anyhooo, whats the verdict on the wheels, I like em, but then after a bit it bugged me, reminded me of something, then all I could think off was these southern nonces! so is it a yaaay or a gaaaay?

Nice. Watch for (a lack of) suspension travel and hitting the bumpstops in the rear with coilovers. A trick is to modify the rear shock upper mount (the sorta doodad that holds the top of the spring on) to let the shock body move upwards more. I bought some for mine and I'll upload pics if you want.

The red wheels worked better imho.
How about a J rising sun graphic rather than the iron cross?

sven.... would be ace if ya can wack a few pics up, the suspension is a bit too harsh, anythings gotta be worth a try, cheers matey mdh, risin sun would be cool- i have been thinking of getting some red circles for the doors, not having rising sun, but just so it looks like the J flag, but kinda like a zero fighter from ww2 and maybe a few other related markins.. dunno tho i originally got a big union 76 logo to slap on the wing, but got the cross as a pressie and figured it was perfick for the job if i can get a decent wing cheap enough tho ill replace it, especially now i know the cheapo paint matches up so well. last wing i was bidding on ended up over £70 so will bide me time for a cheap one to come up. cheers gav, but ya know how it is, prob be a different colour by time i see ya next ;D....... any joy with the new wheels yet? sleeved bolts or drill em out, am i allowed to post a pic or is it secret
