year more tat ive dragged back to my workshop! behold the brush painted raw offroad power- not in bad nick bar for the dubious paint tbh, a bit neglected but nothing that isnt easily sortable. it needs the tank cleaning out and a new filter, a slow puncture sorting, the sticking brakes freeing off (i think its just the cables), and the electrics need some attention. it runs ok, but none of the lights work. ive taken it for a quick blat round the back field, and its not bad for a ehm, 50cc officer , to say its now 24 years old! its even got a few nice parts, such as the DEP pipe, 80cc big bore kit, renthal bars and some aftermarket ally levers. and more astoundingly for this type and vintage of bike, it has the v5c and keys! what am i gunna do with it? i dunno yet! another bobber maybe? them 16" and 19" rims would make it perfect. or just fix the problems, repaint and sell on to fund a nice engine for my other bobber is far more likely. can anyone tell me anything more about it? there doesnt appear to be a lot of info on the net about them.

24 year old trail bike with v5 and keys, ringer ;D Mate had one of these when we were at college. Same mods on his too, went none to bad for the cc. Pretty robust in the way that all the air cooled strokers are plus extra toughness what with being a Honda an all. Seem to remember there was a less common road going version MB5? maybe. The frame is dead similar to the indestructible H100, don't know if the motor would fit. Don't know too much about them really, other than they are largely worthless and that I may be in Essex next week with a empty van if you wish me to dispose of it for you ;D In all seriousness, sell it. Most kids opt for peds these days but the allure of off-road capability's is still rife for young pep's and tea leafing scumbags alike. And if you do wanna knock it out cheap give us a shout

lots of great stuff in holland where moped tuning is big, quick tidy paint job and sell, ton's of better small engine out there (yamaha rsx100)
think some cr80 parts will fit (6 speed gearbox's) nsr80's have the same bottom end with external water pump added for the top end

Always liked the looks of those MT and MB Hondas. I seen a feature on restored MB5s in Classic motorcycle mechanics. This is the persons website about MB5s. But he also has 2 MT50s www.mb5.co.uk/index.html

look on the project bike page. theres 2 MT5s in there. He has them to bits.
He has a MBX. they have silver Comstar wheels with lots of holes in the spokes. There Liquid cooled.
The MB5 and MT5 are similar engines. so the info on his site will be of some relavance.

well, I recon I'm gunna fix the issues, throw some paint at it, and sell it. its gotta easily be worth £250 if sorted out, which will net me a good cd200 or cb175 engine and all the bits I need for my other project.
the model number straight off the v5 is MTF50SF. the frame no starts MT51, and the engine number MT50. afaik it is the road legal off road model, just the indicators are missing(all the wiring and switch is there), and the bloke I got it off says hes got the rear light/mount/numberplate for it somewhere which hes gunna dig out for me. the MB50 was the cafe racer styled road bike.
so what colour should it be? I'm thinking do the tank and rear guard red to match the side panel, and strip the paint off the black light 'mask' and clean that and the front guard up so they're black again. should look pretty tidy then!

Had two of these as my first bikes back when I was sixteen (1992 - blimey). First one was standard and particularly sluggish, second was an 80 and later 100cc.
The engine from a Honda H100 goes straight in (with just a bit of trimming to the cooling fins on the head), but I shouldn't imagine there's many of those still knocking about these days.
Not a huge amount to say about them that you haven't already figured out; good fun, cheap to run/fix, simple mechanics. Great bikes for learning the basics of riding and repairing.
I'd be inclined to tart it up, rather than modify. It needs to find its way back to a 16 year-old again to help stem the tide of twist-and-go's!

Dez,
if you're painting it red - they were pretty much completely red with black panels on side plastics and top of headlamp plastic. Black ones had frame and seat in either yellow or red with matching inserts on plastics. White ones had red or blue seat and white frame plus coded panels on plastics. Blue one had white frame and panels on plastics.
I'll get me coat now, if that's ok.......

K996PLP was mine, when I was 16 only 8 years ago, sold it for the same as I paid, and bought a Derbi senda instead. Mine was in red, and always gave us a laugh.
Soooo wish I had that old mt50 back now though, i'd love another one.

I rebuilt a MTX50 air-cooled for what was gonna be my first road-legal bike when i was 15.........except a week before it was due for MOT it was stolen from my garage.......found it a day later burnt-out in the middle of a field about 2miles from home :-( dragged it by myself home and stripped it down in hope of rebuilding again but never got round to it and sold what i had left a couple of years ago. The H100 engine is an easy fit but getting a bit thin on the ground these day.

Cool, i bought one brand new with some inheritance i got when i was 16, an orangey/red MT5, J reg it was but i cant remember the number, i do have a piccy to scan somewhere though. Woefully slow but we had such great fun back then, i remember having a friend as a passenger and having to let him get off going up hill because it wouldnt make it up! Then getting stopped by the police and passing myself off as my brother who was older and allowed to carry passengers, good times.

It needs to find its way back to a 16 year-old again to help stem the tide of twist-and-go's! Agreed. I'll never understand the twist and go fascination when so many cool bikes like Derbi Senda's, Priller RS50's and the like are so cheap compared to back in my day. Whatever you do, don't ride this around with a tassled leather biker jacket on. The lad who did that on his MT50 when we were both 16 looked like an eejit! Then again, my jacket was all Kevlar'd up so what am I talking about?!
