Haha! 'lovely blue colour', i know what you mean. I have to justify everything i do/wear/buy etc with people on a daily basis because they don't understand why i wouldnt rather do what everyone else does and buy something modern for example.
Belt could be a problem, i did have a speight in winter where the bike was stuck on high revs (throttle cable was buggered, so i had to hold it on the brakes)
And i once over is what i shall be doing, gunna dismantle it fully, sort the earths out, scrub all the curse word off (mud etc) and check the belt and all that.
There is probably water just about everywhere so a good wash and dry off cant hurt.

Ha ha, yeah I know what you mean....My mum always used to ask "when are you cutting that bloody mohican off?!!!" ;D When it loses power do the revs drop off or stay high? If they're staying high then I'd say the belt is fubar but if the revs are dropping along with the power then I'd say it was starvation/blockage with the fuel somewhere. Could be partially blocked so it's trickling some fuel through but not enough when you open it up. Also you mentioned that it started playing up, was fine then started again. Could suggest a partial blockage, clearing itself & then blocking up again (maybe). You could try something I've done in the past to help clear cack from the carb, take the main air feed pipe off the carb. Start it up wind the throttle up and cover the air intake on the carb with your hand, as the engine starts to die (lack of air) take your hand off & keep the revs on. done this with Bugs in the past & because it's sucking loads of air after having none it usually sucks through any crud and spits it out of the exhaust. Had to do this on my last bug as I ran out of petrol and drew some curse word from the tank, after some noise and coughing it cleared itself. ;D

That doesnt sound like too bad an idea, the revs just drop off. If I'm going along and i open up the throttle it'll just start to slow and eventually die if i don't drop the amount of throttle I'm using.
Most likely curse word in the lines for all i know

Hmmmm, does sound more like fuel starvation to be honest. If the belt was slipping I would have thoughts the revs would have remained constant, get some carb cleaner before you start as well, I always find it useful.

Mine was de-restricted and did a steady 45mph with the stock exhaust & rollers. I had a Sym Jet Euro X 50 before the TGB (which was pinched & trashed to death by the local chav's). The Sym was a get ped imo, Taiwanese built the same as the TGB. The TGB never let me down regardless of the weather, handled well enough and felt well built. I'll probably be looking to buy another ped this year due to the rising fuel costs & the Sym & TGB will be the one's I go for. The only points about the TGB is the oil tank is a bit of a curse word to fill up (needs a bendy funnel), the exhaust rots almost from new (kept rubbing it down & coating mine with exhaust paint which stopped it from going into holes). For an on the road price of £999 it's a great ped for the money, better built than the Chinese equivalent, reliable and reasonable turn of speed when de-restricted.
If/when I get another it'll get the same treatment as the last one, still got a can of matt Nato green from the last time. ;D

Trust me on this !

Trust me on this ! TGB it is then ;D I was really surprised how reliable the TGB was, mine was the base model (202). They've got some fancier one's out now (the Hawk is one of them iirc), but looking at the prices you could buy a Piaggio/Gilera type machine for similar money. I do miss my ol Stasi scooter, will probably give the next one the same treatment & maybe add some extra bits to give it a more 'military' feel. That was the plan with th elast one but I brought (another) bug to use as my daily because I was sick and tired of the local scrotes breaking into the shed trying to pinch it. After the 3rd attempt I sold it within a week, couldn't be doing with the hassle. We've now moved area's and a few of the neighbours have bikes out in the open without any hassle so I should be ok this time round (hopefully). ;D

Just for your info, after a good clean and all that, wires had a bit of a clean, and the battery stuck on quick charge for a few hours, it now works brilliantly.
Indicators work properly, and better than before cos theres a new flasher relay on there, so as long as it doesnt cut out on the way to the station tomorrow then i'll be fine.

Oh, and I used your method with the carb, so hopefully thats done something. It's not 100% accurate as a fix, I gues snothing beats a strip down & clean but if time/knowledge is short it's always worth a go. Glad you're back on the road fella. ;D

I'll be braving the 20 mile round trip to college soon as well. Making my commute 100 miles a week!
The melody will be clocking over to '0000' soon, its on 9.5k miles I think.
