I was just watching an old Brighton Speed Trials video,.. trying to catch the name of the guy that built a fantastic Bentley special (it was Andy Padgett (I think)) when I saw a rather nice Vauxhall Firenza with Transpeed written all over it.. a quick google later turned up this thread : www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42215&page=1&pp=15It's form 2003 but has some info on what happened to some of the super saloons/special saloons...

How bizarre was googling thundersaloons earlier... Thundersaloons and specialsaloons are my favourite kind of race car bar none... You just kind of get the feeling there are still a lot out there in barns and garages.

Yeah seems that a lot ended up in barns. what a category though, made for such good racing with 1 liter imps up against 8 liter V8's against 2L BDA's all mashed together in one series. I just wish i could have been there to see them race. J

Especially when you can make a Belmont look this good... ;D Christ that looks rough now That car was built by a mate of Mine, Griff... Trevor Griffiths and was originally powder blue and sponsered by Welcome Break. Had a Manta 400 Engine in it and F1 Spec Berrylium Brembo Calipers ;D (Straight out the back door of Lotus ) was a quick car in its day.... Griff was a pretty mean peddler as well, he raced super sallons for years and then went over to Thunder saloons but the rising costs killed it for everyone Super saloons were always for the engineer/Car builders which is why you got some fantastic creations... A lot of them were old F2 and F-Atlantic cars underneath, so when the Historic motorsport boom came along, a lot of the Cars which by then had nowhere to race, were worth more in their original form again so were restored back to open wheelers or Sports racers again... Nice to see the car again, spent a lot of happy times spannering on that for him
