Well since I do around 35 miles a day to work, I'm trying to cut costs a bit by using this. And because I never had one when I was 16 ;D I passed my CBT on Tuesday, just waiting for my cover note to come through so I can tax it. Its got the usual mods: Derestricted Leo Vince TT pipe Sports clutch Heavier rollers Kevlar belt Flat out it hits around 50, but generally is cruises at around 40 - 45. Its a nice difference from being stuck behind a steering wheel for 3 years!

Feel the freedom Like the idea of hoping on and off a ped. Mate had one of these with a 125 engine in still registered as a 50 naturally. The boy could wheelie it for ever till it got nicked. NRG's are pretty good peds and I think I've got some spares if you get stuck with anything.

Yeh its a good feeling being in the open. I wont feel bad about short tripping the car aswell, I can just hop on and off this with ease.
Spares..you don't have a front mudguard and hub oil dipstick by any chance do you? ;D

For most of my short journeys a ped would be ideal, it's only once a month or so I really need the extra cc's but I could not live with out a bike and can't afford a ped too. I'll check out about those bits as it's a garden ornament at my pals house so may take a day or 2. I kid you not he has a hose pipe running up through the body work which runs a waterfall over paddles on the front tyre and back into the pond Thinking about it he may have given the front mudguard away already but I will check for both bits.

Yours is aircooled correct? they came as an 80cc as well if you want to get into tuning them but first I suggest you upgrade the forks to proper oil filled ones (as opposed to grease filled) yours shares the front end with gilera runner's so there's plenty second hand out there.

Yup its air-cooled. Really? I want a bit more performance, was thinking of getting a gear up kit but I take it that will affect acceleration? Yeah I was wondering why the forks are always covered in grease haha, cool, I'll keep that in mind

gear up kits are for people who have already tuned the nuts off their engines and are looking for more speed, the std 50cc won't pull it and you'll get swamped by cars at traffic light if you can't sprint away.
To get a bit more performance i'd just trawl around the scrappys looking for a piaggio 80cc engine, drop it straight in with the carb exhaust and cdi, no fuss instant performance gain with no down sides, like reliability and getting the jetting right.

Nice on Takeshi. I have just bought a Peugeot speedfight 2, 100cc air cooled scoot for my girly as she has expressed an interest in passing her cbt but can't get to grips with the gears/clutch thing. I was under the impression that your Piaggio used the same "power plant" ;D as the Peugeot ? If this is true then a 100cc barrel, piston & carb should be a fairly easy performance upgrade. One thing I noticed whilst test riding my girlfriend's Pug was that other road users don't seem to give you much respect on one. I'm sure they assume you will just hold them up & try everything to pass you, even when it's not safe. Love the spares availability for these scooters & the prices ! Ride safely dude.

Might be an idea to alarm it bud & invest in a descent chain & lock, these are a favourite for thieves. Nice ped BTW

My Gilera Runner 200 had 3 locks, an alarm and was parked outside my offices in Clerkenwell with CCTV looking down on it.....didn't stop it being picked up and being shoved in a van. Out of the 3 so far that have been stolen that was the only one I never saw again. Anyway - I think the Piaggio Typhoon shared a lot of the rear end with the NRG, so parts should be easy to find. My last one had a 172cc Malossi kit, 25mm carb etc plus the rest of the bits - bit of a sleeper really even kept the stock can and mirrors....surprised a few people on my commute into London, wish I never sold it.

Cheers guys. Well I got a Oxford disc lock, Abus D-lock and a master chain and padlock, attached to the bog drain ;D And its under a cover in my back garden, not seeable from the lane. Not much more I can bar an immobilizer. And yes most road users think your out to just annoy them, which a shame since I'm not a typical 16 year old chav! Driving for 3 years before hand helps a great deal. thewindscreenman: Cheers bud, will do. I will upgrade to a 70cc or what not. I take dropping the whole rear end is pretty simple?

yep,one bolt for the engine. one for the shock, throttle cable and wiring, think the centre stand might be attached to the engine as well making a handy engine stand but i'm not sure, did look under mine while i was thinkin of put my runner 180 engine in, centre stand details have slipped my mind.
immobilizer is pretty useless on a non fuel injection bike, even i (who hates electrics) can get around em. Best trick is a secret little switch on the low tension side of the coil. Once two thieves nicked a bike of mine, had it hot wired and couldn't get it to start, idiots didn't spot my kill switch was engaged (it's right on the handlebar! nice big red switch!) Sometimes just taking the sparkplug cap off will confuse enough to make em move onto easier targets. Even worse some won't spot the big locks until they have broken your steering lock and shoved a screw driver in the ignition (which don't work!)

My first ped was one of these. Good little bike but boy oh boy did it attract a lot of attention from scumbag kids. It got nicked eventually.
Almax do the best chains these days.

Yeah the centre stand is bolted to the engine, which is handy. Just prop the bike up on a couple of axle stands while the engine is out. Temtped now Well 3 locks, a chain, in the (locked) back garden up a lane under a cover outside next to the house. How far can you go to stop scumbags?
