My poor old white mk1 Escort is no more! Shed no tears though, it was crusty as hell and will be helping to keep the silver one on the road. Plus I had a good day down the workshop with my bro & OldSkoolCortina stripping it out - made a nice change from undersealing Sierras (only to scrape it off again on a speedbump a few days later).
Doesn't look too bad...Note open door though. That's because the A-post is so rotten the door needed to be lifted 4" to close it!
WOW! Structural P40 in those strut tops! Legend has it Stevie Wonder held the repair panels while Ray Charles tacked 'em on.
It was at this point I thought, "Hang on, it doesn't look as bad as I thought...."
James demontrates why it IS as bad as I thought. Only two small tack welds held the wing on!
Cutting out a section of bodywork - damn sight easier than welding said section to the silver one, no doubt...
NOW I know why I get mocked, I do look kind of camp and overdressed. Engine's a good 'un, I'll be freshening that up and transplanting it soon!
Up on it's side, ready for axle & suspension removal. James cut the top section of tunnel out to help lend a factory feel to his RS2000-powered 100E (in progress).
Time for the weigh-in....Hopefully we'll get the roof off this weekend, I hate throwing good stuff out.
I should point out that the shell looks a lot tidier than it is, due to loads of filler and a blow-over. If I'd realised how bad it was when I got it, I would have bought the solid 2-door shell the same bloke had for £250. I know, I know, you live and learn...
