Mums old proton aeroback that I've been bodging back on the road for a while is trying its best to retire but I really don't want it to/can't afford it to!!
Basically it starts and runs brilliantly but it recently overheated due to a radiator failure. I fixed the rad and installed a leccy fan on a switch and all has been well but a pipe burst and it overheated again. I've fixed the pipe and now I can hear the waterpump bearing rattling about. Thing is, it runs great and starts great but it seems to be a bit smokier than it was. The smoke is white/grey which to me would indicate coolant to me except it doesnt seem to use coolant, the level in the rad stays about the same. Now the new waterpump is £30 and an engine mount needs to be removed to get to it, I wouldn't mind determining wether the head gasket has gone or the head is warped before spending any more cash and time on it.
The oil is oily and it runs on 4 nice and smoothly doesnt seem to use water and when the leccy fan is on it doesnt overheat but is a fair bit smokier than it was. Is there a decent DIY method of determining exhuast gas in coolant etc..? As I said the oil isnt mayonnaise and its running well. Doesnt use coolant or oil but is pretty smokey
Some random protons for your enjoyment!
