Can't see the pics yet because my work blocks Flickr.. I wasn't meant to be there at all, but got a worryingly intriguing text friday afternoon that said 'got you an engine' ;D Massive thanks to Bruce, 'The gentleman from next door' who allowed his breaker punto to be pillaged of EVERYTHING and everyone that helped pull the engine, box, loom, ecu, driveshafts, transponder magicness, fuel gubbins.. Everything It has given me a real mojo boost and reminds me of the sense of community spirit around RR that makes this place what it is. Hope it's getting closer, Andy.. EDIT: when I say 'helped', I mean 'did it all for me before I had even turned up'. Legends!

Bruce.. My forgetfulness means that some seats and my hat are still in Bristol. I promise I'll remember next time. Will forget something else though Someone put that blower motor that you wanted in my car, by the way. I'll make sure it finds its way back for next month

LOL - I spotted your hat within minutes of you leaving yesterday. I figured you have plenty more hats so wouldn't be needing it too much between now and the next Playday. When I was back at the unit today I spotted the seats behind the Starion but immediately pictured the back of the Passat Wagon filled with engine, loom, servo, fuel tank etc....so didn't give it a second thought. Glad you're happy with the engine, such a stroke of luck! I guess it's a case of right place, right time combined with a bit of "I know someone who could use one of them" along with some of the classic old "if you don't ask..." Worked out well methinks and I had a good laugh getting the lot out. Friday was deffo a Punto day (more details to come for those that weren't there ) MX5 is looking a lot more stripped today. Ready to go on the ramp later in the week I hope and will be a bare shell by the weekend I reckon......YAY!

Looks like it was a good emergency weekend with plenty of helpful hands turning out! The next play day, whats the plans? I'll bring some 'appropriate' equipment depending on the plans if needs-be but at least I can start making some more biscuits and a special Brizzle loaf of bread or two to cook Chris!

Did you guys get the new loom in then? No - the donor car only arrived on Sunday, so the loom was still very much installed when we left. AFAIK, the loom/electrics swap is planned for the next play weekend. Last weekend was mostly aimed at getting the Benz back on the road.

Bruce, there doesn't happen to be a spare intact set of indicator bulb holders between the MX5's that are up there now does there? I could do with some sometime. Also you don't happen to fancy selling the top arms from the parts MX5 do you?
Sounds like you've all be having fun and getting progress made up there, I'm massively bored in bed at the moment having been ill the last week, with only the prospect of a load of college work to catch up with once I'm better again, so I really can't wait until the next play day gives me an excuse to get away from it all. ;D

Feel a bit special as I accidentally found A52 yesterday on the way to a job interview ;D Hope to get involved when I move up. Why didn't you knock? I was there all day! If you're passing again, make sure you bang on the doors....I'm not always there but try to be there as often as possible. Bruce if you're reading this, I did call you back earlier but it rang through, got work tomorrow so I'll give you a call at 9pm-ish if that's okay? No worries, just wanted to let you know that I hope to get started on your car beginning of next week. I couldn't start it any sooner because there is still no room for it in the unit, so have been quite literally flat out stripping the donor MX5 to a bare shell in order to be able to weigh it in which will make space for yours. You still need to source a good alternator to replace your fubar'd one plus also one to replace mine (still not able to start my car until I get a replacement) and wanted to give you enough warning to get on the case in time for when I get around to installing your new loom. I reckon it'll be approx 3 days to do the whole job so no major rush to get it for Monday, but if you can find one and get it to me by next Weds, that will help....and also if you can source one for mine it would be great....I didn't foresee it being immobilised for quite so long. I'll keep you updated as things progress. Hopefully I'll have it underway before too long.

Oh and an update on the loom (Will has already seen this shot) The new loom is out and ready for fitting. Removing the main fusebox/relay box was a curse word of a job because of the way it runs under the engine, along the underside of the car, clipped in a million places along the way, over the gearbox, up through the boot floor and onto the battery in the boot. At lease I now know how to remove it on Wills car (the one part of the loom we didn't tackle when we took the rest out) Might not look a lot, but 14hrs solid just to get that lot out.....and that doesn't include taking the dash/heater/AC/seats/panels etc...out beforehand! I'm quite looking forward to the challenge of getting it all back in Wills car though.

A little video I took today. I'd already taken off all the front suspension/hubs/brakes/wishbones before thinking about removing the running gear this way. It certainly made taking everything apart MUCH easier If only I'd left the front suspension/hubs on, I could have had it sitting on the gold BBS rather than axle stands....that would have looked quite cool as the body went its own way ;D
