my god is there no end to the A52 shenanigans CONGRATULATIONS>......... You made the 100th page! I must say that when I took the keys to Area 52, I never saw it becoming what it has. Here's to 1,000 posts (20 posts time I believe) Can't wait to get the pics off the camera. Can't wait to get back down there and get cracking on the cars again. CAN'T WAIT!!

after reading more they don't add dish, they add it to the middle. which i don't think would be ideal.
extra research needs to be done i think.

Yay, post 1987. I was born in 1987. Bruce, what sort of time will you be there on Friday? I'm fairly free all afternoon, so can lend a hand sorting out for spraying if you want to get a head-start on it.

post 1989, when my E30 was made I might have some more metal to bring - it'll be computer case chassis stuff, thin metal, but handy for pre made brackets and such.

If anyone is at a loose end tomorrow night I'll be down at the unit from about 4pm until about 10pm getting the MX5 ready for the weekend.
I know Ruishy (Ross) will be there....but if anyone else fancies helping with getting the car stripped/prepped then the kettle will be on, the biscuit barrel filled and the heating on full force ;D
Not sure if I'm nervous or excited about the weekend now? Too late to change my mind anyway and I know it's gonna look cool when done.

c'mon Bruce get those bloody pics up ! OK then, if you insist.... Friday night. Most of the time was spent tidying up, clearing, sorting etc....Jed just settles in and chills Ross (Ruishy1) turns up at around 6.30 and we pull the MX5 forward and get started. Ross starts removing the original front fog lights (to be sold) and I start on fixing the broken electric window & central locking. You've got to love peeling back the layers and finding the history of a car....this one has obviously had a replacement door at some stage. I'd never have know because the exterior paintwork is pretty good! While taking the door apart I notice something inside that doesn't really look like it belongs!! A closer inspection and there is more of it at the other end of the door. How strange! Yep...someone had taken the time & effort to remove the door card just to wedge some hoofing big bits of wood in there instead of fixing the window! The wood wasn't even holding the glass up anyway! Nice repairz Window regulator out. It's borked, but luckily I had picked up a working replacement one beforehand. Central door locking fault traced to a dead solenoid. Very, very luckily there just happened to be an identical one in the A52 racking! Not sure where it came from or when it appeared but I wasn't about to argue. Fitted and working, this part of the 'solving niggles' was complete. It was around this time (about 11.30) that Rich turned up and we decided to have a beer, a bit of banter then bed because it was going to be an early start in the morning and a long day. 3.30am, a skinful of beers and some right laughs later it was decided that we realy needed to get some sleep. We had to be up in just over 3hrs!! Why does this ALWAYS happen?? Very early the next morning, we nip to the local greasy spoon for a 'wakey wakey' bacon buttie, collect the rented trailer and then head over to High Wycombe. 11.00am we arrive in High Wycombe to collect the new A52 motor. Mark & Lisa pop over to say hi and take a first glance at the new motor (they live just around the corner) Here it is - yet another Hustler....but there is a very good reason for this. Thanks to Si (B8D) for pointing me to the eBay sale of this, I now have a properly registered Hustler 6 to go with my properly registered Hustler Sport. My existing Hustler 6 has yet to be registered which means an IVA. While I have no problem with doing this, the purchase of the new Hustler was actually cheaper than an IVA let alone the cost of any work to make it IVA compliant. Seeing a logbook with Hustler: Three-Axle-Rigid Body printed there in black & white really made me happy. Funnily enough I should be able to sell the other Hustler 6 for a similar amount to what I paid for this one which will mean I got upgraded to a registered Hustler for almost nothing! The interior is quite cool in places, quite damp & mould in others. Nothing to worry about though....it's worth every penny. The mould is only in the carpets which are coming out anyway. Loaded up and ready to head back to Area 52. I drove down and start the drive back too.. When we get to Reading services I let Rich take over for a bit. It gives me chance to relax in the back of the Delica, something I never normally get to do because I'm always driving the things! We'd been getting through the snack & supplies quite quickly. Good job we stocked up well before setting off. ;D Ross & Rich discuss possible/potential projects..... ....while behind, the new aquisition seems quite happy being dragged along on its trailer Saturday afternoon/evening to come soon.

[edit] 2000 posts......WOW!!! [/edit] Saturday afternoon/evening (not many shots I'm afraid....I was kinda busy working on other things and drinking too much beer!!) The MX5 get hoiked up & wheels off ready for Ross to start tickling the arches. Around this time Gaz arrived in his 'matching' MX5 He said he was good, but seriously....he is good!! Rear arches rolled beautifully, no cracking at all. They were also pulled 1.5" but you'd never know, they look so 'factory' - in fact I'd say they now look better than factory! The front arches will be tackled in the morning - Ross fits the arch roller ready At this point I realise I am supposed to be at a family meal! I'm already late but decide to go anyway.....they are going to have to be envious my lovely oily jeans, filthy hoodie, black hands and unshowered fragrance because I don't have time to go home and change! I get back a few hours later to find Lee, Dave, Ben & Matt (MattMK1) had arrived. This is the point where I didn't get any shots It was lovely to meet you Matt and I am looking forward to you coming along again The reason I didn't get any shots - a nice chap called Andy turned up to look at the Delica. He spent the first hour just in awe of the place and chatting to everyone. He was really taken with the Delica too....fingers crossed. Nearly midnight, he heads off home (about two hours later than expected!) and so do Lee and Dave. The rest of us crack on with work & beer....this time the attention is focused on Rich's new ride: The Cedric (300C if being pedantic ) The mission; Altitude adjustment. Cedric in and off with the front strut. Rich tackles the mahooosive front struts....seriously, these things look like they were designed by Brunel to carry the weight of Bristol. The whole of Bristol and its residents. Madness! Sheer madness.... Rich finds a pair of Pajero/Shogun rear springs in my 'stash' which I agree to donate to the Cedric. They look like they might be the perfect size for the Cedric struts. They are....so rich proceeds to chop a coil out and trial fit. The Pajero springs are already shorter than the Cedric ones, but are also stiffer. One coil should help bring the height down. FAIL!!!! Never in the history of Area 52 have we fitted chopped springs to a car and it lifts the front by 1.5" Madness! We were all gobsmacked, shocked and horrified (and equally amused) - so much so I forgot to get a photo of this bizarre occurrence. Another 1.5 coils come out and we are left with this (guess which is the original Cedric and which is the Pajero) Rich fits the new 'slightly shorter' springs to the mammoth struts and they go back on the car. There is SOOOO much travel on the struts that the new springs still leave a decent amount of travel despite their lack of length! Photos of the cars new ride height to follow in Sundays episode. For now, have a pic of out new toy. Ross & I went halves on an eBay diesel heater listed and 'spares & repair'. A flush through and clean, new filter and some fresh diesel (I don't think the 'stuff' that came out could be classified as diesel??) and it fired up first time. Nice hot air to take the chill off the unit. Awesome! Sundays fun will be along this evening.....
