Bruce, I am off next week so if your wanting to have a pop at the work bench give me a shout. Will mainly be spending quality time with the woman but I am sure she wont miss me for a few hours.
I am inspired to break out my welder and practice some more!

I am inspired to break out my welder and practice some more! Sound like a plan! Thanks for the offer. ;D Might get to the unit tomorrow and measure up, purchase some metal (any ideas on best size? 50x50 box, 60x60 etc... ) in readiness for some chopping/welding action. Will need to plan it for vice mount as well as possible other useful tools (bench grinder, pillar drill) You never know, A52 might one day actually start to resemble a proper workshop!! LOL

A wooden worktop would probably be a good idea – some thick chip board will probably do the trick. That way you can bolt vices / drills to it. It would be worth turning the space under the work top into secure storage as well – that way you can keep a few things safe when you not there (compressor / welder etc) I have an idea on how it can work out but its going to take ageeeees to type out – will have to bore you face to face and show you some scratty drawings instead! I was also thinking you could really do with one of those wheel trolleys to store your wheels on – again should be easy to make something with some box section and some dolly wheels. Think there is a place out Keynsham way that does steel supplies.

Thanks James,
I was going to make the worktop out of 21mm or 24mm MDF - fairly tough but cheap to replace (sacraficial) and certainly nicer to work on than a metal worktop
Storage section underneath sounds good - hadn't thought of that....I was just going to put some shelving under there. Compressor or welder wouldn't fit due to height.
Remember I've got the lockable store so security wise that covers most of the tools....so maybe shelving could work better?
Wheel trolley - absolute genius idea! I also was planning some kind of racking (approx 7ft/8ft up) to store wheels and other bulky items to give more floor space. It'd be great to make the space a lot more efficient.
Might have to meet up sometime over the weekend for a brew and start planning some of this out? Might see if Morgs is free too....he can hold the racking up without having to use a ladder LOL!

definitely up for the fibreglass action and that welding looks mucho better than anything Ive ever managed (down to crappy thin rusty steel on cars.... thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)

cool, fibreglass lesson would be cool, always wanted to try fashion a bonnet out of fibreglass.
As for shelving... I just thought I know someone who has quite a lot of warehouse grade metal racking (the stuff that just locks together (no fiddly bolts), with chipboard shelves... easily take the weight of engines, gearboxes etc...) will ask if he still has it.

Not been on here for a few little while, pc issues blah blah. OH MY GOD how things have moved on here!! I feel there is far to much to respond to since the last playday so to be brief...
Last playday was awesome. Cheers guys!
14th November...noted and written in pen in my paper diary.
Fibreglassing....YES PLEASE. That's a big yes please! I want to try fabricating some new door cards for the CX from fibreglass so its a no brainer for me.
Welding - I'll be there too. I'm sooo up for a project right now but feel limited on skills (and if I'm honest a little in awe of the abilities of RR people in general)...
Love the other devoplments Bruce....athena pictures, THAT poster, sticker on the microwave. Excellent!

Saturday I'm otherwise engaged... ;D but Sunday afternoon for a measure up can be done. I should be able to do an afternoon or two next week for shelving, but I'll chat through that with you tomorrow night. Looking grand down there my man. Happy as a pig in the proverbial that I'm Bristol for the long term, and part of something that as Ron Burgundy would deem as 'kind of a big thing' See you tomorrow. 8ish morgs

As for shelving... I just thought I know someone who has quite a lot of warehouse grade metal racking (the stuff that just locks together (no fiddly bolts), with chipboard shelves... easily take the weight of engines, gearboxes etc...) will ask if he still has it. WOW - Phil, that would be awesome!! If you do have the chance of getting any I'd be really grateful - it'll certainly help clear more space for working on cars and less tripping over things BTW - finally got around to watching the DVD last night (none of my DVD players would play region 4!!) It's absolutley brilliant. Really enjoyed it, so a MASSIVE thank you for bringing it back. It'll be getting a late night playing down at the unit on the 14th - Dan is bringing a projector & speakers ;D ;D

you got suitable DVDage chap? I have a DVD player thatll play anything I've just managed to get my laptop to run R4 (will only let me change twice more between regions) so as long as I don't watch any R2 films in the next three weeks, I should be OK If you can bring a DVD player as back-up anyway that'd be great. Thanks.

I have a bench grinder you can have, my donation to an awesome space, has finishing wheels on it at the moment, I will post a pic for you tomorrow. WOW! That would be really great if you don't mind donating it? Things like this will really benefit the play days etc.... Once I get the bench made, I might just treat myself to a pillar drill and some good drill bits. Morgs is kindly donating a vice to the unit as well, so things are looking promising ;D Many thanks for the offer.... Hope to be there on the 14th guys Excellent news. I'll make sure the MR2 is there and ready for a blast. I'm so glad you can make it over. Remember to call me soon so that I can get the spare room/rooms arranged (is Leigh coming too?) and get the good GF on cooking duties for us - top food guaranteed! John (GTV) is hopefully coming over as well, so this is turning into an international meeet. COOL!!
