Uhoh i see a MONSTER turbo there, and a 13B that is gonna shift then! I'm guessing that car is in Oz? we don't get many cars like that over here, If you want a drag car here then its V8, apart from that turbo YB caterham thingy. Very few rotary drag cars, there should be so many more, they really are giant killers

Hey, seems kinda starnge to see a car that i used to own in australia on a website based in th UK! cheers for posting the pics up mike. I do miss this little car quite a bit. Sure would be alot of fun down at rotorstock this year. Give the big boys a wee scare, maybe?! Its best time with current owner is a high 10sec quarter mile time. I guess i will have to make do with my soon to be ocnverted rotary moggy minor. cheers, top first post, michael.

I visited a garage a few days ago that consisted of a Datsun 1200 Ute being converted into a drag car. An SR20DET in a Datsun 1600 (510) street car, and tucked in the corner was a Toyota KE30 Corolla with a Toyota Quad Cam V8 in it, also although not Japanese.. There was a Zephyr with a pair of Holleys CROWNed with a bugcatcher.
It was just a normal Garage, not a commercial one, just a private garage at someone's house.
There's also several guys with big plans for their cars on datsun.co.nz, one is turning his 510 Wagon into an SR20DET powered drag car.

Not really after silly power, just enough to make the old Datty a reliable modern milage muncher that will go sideways on demand. I won't modify the engine that I fit, purely for reliablity reasons- but then 200+hp in a 33 year Dat is probably going to be enough anyway! I expect this will irk a few of you, but I plan to make it an auto - I have a spare cruise control kit kicking about, so that should help to make it a comfortable motorway weapon. I missed a side damaged s14 a few weeks ago on eBay - it went for £246!

A good SR and box will cost you a grand. A half decent CA18 can be bought for £250 and refreshed fairly cheaply. SS, as you are looking for a modest 200bhp, I would go for a CA18 over the SR as with mild tweeks like induction/better intercooler and a small hike in boost, you will easily make 220BHP. If you want to achive 180-190BHP even cheaper , go for a CA18ET from a s12. The aforementioned 610SSS is undergoing a complete restoration and by complete I mean complete. The engine currently resides in a S12, which at a RRoad last year produced over 300bhp at 1.2bar. It was not fully mapped, and when this is done, it will be running between 1.8-2bar, ie serious BHP I'll post a link soon..... www.datsun.co.nz/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1228

I read once the CA (despite how they die) is a more sophisticated (though not as powerful) engine than the SR, and that Nissan changed over to the SR because the CA cost more to produce.
But is that true?
