I'm looking at buying a mk1 Fiesta in the near future and have a few ideas floating round in my head. I also have a GSXR1100 bike engine and a sierra LSD rear end in my garage..... see where i'm getting at yet? So.... what to do? FWD GSXR power...... Use standard diff or LSD and driveshafts etc. in custom carrier and sprocket bolted on. Front engine RWD GSXR power...... Front mount engine with prop to rear (sierra LSD etc). De Dion rear suspension (locost style). Rear engine RWD GSXR power...... Use sierra LSD diff with sprocket bolted on and tranverse mid mount engine. Front car engine (zetec/cvh turbo?)...... Probably the simplest install but most expensive as would have to buy the engine. The easiest is probably the car engine, but most expensive aswell. Next is the FWD bike engine idea as it would mean pretty much no work to the chassis apart from engine mounts etc... also probably the most original but probably not the best. RWD front engine would be difficult (transmission tunnel and rear end needs to be fabricated) but pretty good results. Rear engine possibly the best but also very difficult. So... what to do? Adam

I also have a set of Sierra brakes and bias bar master cylinders, and 14" KN Jupiters (with 165/60 tyres for that stretched look) that will be finding their way on pretty soon Oh yes and a mountney steering wheel. Oh the joys of ford compatability. I know the brakes won't go straight on but I'll get some adaptor plates made up, I know its possible. Adam

Thats the one I would most love to do, but it means building a whole new rear suspension setup, which is why the FWD idea is very tempting. Past much past 500kgs the lack of torque can become a bit of an issue, but I'm sure I'll find a way around that (i hear subaru turbo's go quite cheaply nowadays) Adam

760kg isnt alot! maybe compared to a glass reliant but not compared with most cars out there. The engine is a fairly heavy iron lump so once you loose that you would drop it to about 500kg i would say!
Rear engine RWD is the only way to go with bike engines imo! but i can see why fwd is tempting

Wheels are the ones in this picture (need to get a decent picture of them). They're mint and cost £250 with £300 of brand new Yoko A021R rubber Bargainous. Adam

While we're talking about MkI Fiestas, I'd thought I'd mention something I noticed today. Our local Ford dealer used to have a wrecked MkIII Escort 5-dr outside, covered in paint and stickers stating 'WE PAID £1500 FOR THIS CAR' to advertise their minimum part-X deal. When I passed today it's gone. It's replacement? An apparently very-clean MKI Fiesta in great condition bar the HUGE (roof to sill - including the windows) 'WE PAID £1500 FOR THIS CAR' sticker. Ironically, it seemed like a reasonable purchase!

The wheels weigh about the same as 6x13 RS 4 spokes (7kgs each) They were made for caterham who wanted a light weight but good looking wheel. Adam

Did this when Slater first put his fez on here - looks wise Locoster's got it spot on - Euro'd all the way. Feeling the rwd bike-powered idea, need to be quite powerful unit as I'd thought a Fez is a little heavier than a Mini.
