Not sure if this will be allowed in this area but please to more to wherever needed if so. Well yes, it's vulcan and it needs funding to be able to stay in the air! it's the 50th anniversary this year so please donate and keep it going. Ok the plane is before my time but hey so is my imp! it is retro it's old so lets keep it in the air like we keep our cars on the road! Donate if you can and lets see what they can do. an immense site in the air!

Link to where we can donate??
I've got a fiver to help keep the old bird in the air, she took too long to get her airworthy again and it'd be a shame for her to be grounded due to lack of funds, personally I think the goverment should do something/more, it's the goverment's attitude with things like this that is the reason why there's only one Lancaster left in the air.

Don't get me wrong I like my aircraft. I've donated money to the Vulcan project many times. But the money isn't going where you think it's going; which is why there's a continual begging effort. Out of a needed funding of £2m per year, some £1.2 is getting paid out in staff costs.
Not groovy.
On other points... there are two airworthy Lancasters, and two that can ground run. The Lanc owned by the RAF has never left service since it was built in 1945. The government's committment to it was shown when it was resparred in the mid 1990's and again the other year when it had a major overhaul at Coventry.

Like Ric says, it's a shame where the money has to go to but it's not the staff that is the big cost it's the insurance and all the tests it has to go through. The government are the problem here, the rules make it hard for the vulcan to now land or take off at Most of the RAF bases due to the size of the runways.
BTW sorry for not putting the link on missed that!

BTW sorry for not putting the link on missed that! The Vulcan has been lodging on goverment property since leaving Bruntingthorpe... the insurance is dictated by the EU. The EU insurance rules are a pain, and have caused a lot of trouble for operators of classic aircraft, and is based on a weight system. Unfortunately the Vulcan is a heavyweight, and her insurance is similar to a passenger airliner.

The dif in gummit commitment to the Lanc versus the Vulcan comes down to WW2 was a "hot" war, won in no small measure by the Lanc and other strategic bombers. Whereas, the public (and pols) don't pay nearly as much worship to the winners of the "cold" war against the USSR/Warsaw Pact. (Even though a helluva lot of the cold war was exceedingly hot for those on the front lines - so to speak - in various roles and in various conflicts over the 50 year Cold War.)
This thread needs pictures BTW.
