Ignoring the blower I want you all to take a good long look at these two engines. One is built traditional V8 style, the other is in the new M5. See any similarities? Before: After: Hmmmmmmm, I wonder where BMW have been poking their noses...

Please explain... i don't really understand what I'm looking at, other than the fact that the BMW engine is infact a V10 ?

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

Only one that strikes me is the ram hoods for the induvidual bodies, that would on the BM, connect into a much larger plenum system either side for the engine to breathe through

I'm sure any resemblance to other engines is just an example of convergent design, i.e. two design teams both getting to the same final route because it is the best

I was referring to the vintage scoops on top of the intakes. Hotrodders have been using these since the 40's if I recall and now BMW have decided they are best for their V10. Kinda funny.

Yes, it seems some of you are more distracted by matte finish aluminium parts than grubby chrome and black hoses.
CALL YOURSELF RETRO RIDERS?!!! Go and stand in the corner, all of you except Lewis and TwincamGTi

Perhaps when you said "ignore the blower" this made people stop looking at the top of the engine so-to-speak Trouble is how many times have manufacturers claimed something is 'new' only for it to have been done decades ago (be it private venture or by a long gone manufacturer). Never forget an advert by Mazda in the mid 90's "Our invention of a Double Wishbone front suspension takes handling to a new dimension" Double wishbone suspension ...NEW !!!!? What on earth... Actually they pulled that add pretty quick off the scene.

Are those really ‘vintage scoops’ or is it just the tracts of the inlet manifold which have been ‘sectioned’ to allow you to see the engine properly?

It's hard to tell to be honest, what with all that stuff stuck on the outside: Wooooargh, scary, it has a circuit board stuck on it. Imagine where you start when it won't fire on a cold damp winter morning... Old meets new. Looks like some old junk jubilee clips hold them on too!
