My GSi is a 16v. The Reg check says it's an 8v. Strange eh? Don't think it affects my insurance much though.
Obviously as I said if it hasn't got the 16v on the boot, it'll be an 8v ... probably.
Another way to deffo find out is, the pistons on a 16v are FLAT, and the 8v's are SCOOPED.

Never driven a GTE til about a week ago, when my mate let me drive his MK2 GTE 16v. Basically I loved it, was great fun. First FWD n/a hatch I've ever driven that torque steers, it handles which is odd for a Vauxhall and was great fun to drive.
I'm sold I'd deffinatly have one, which is hard cause I'm a total ford lover and I've always wanted an RS turbo, but if I had them money I honestly would have to think twice...........

16v deffo came in black ! Only time I saw a black mk2 Gte was a 8v brochure car.Can;t recall seeing one on road though -16v or even 8v Silver it seems is 8v only then My GSi is a 16v. Erm, check the log book? I thought their official title was 'Astra GTE 16V' while the 8V was just Astra GTE?

g481urg that was my diamond black metallic 16v gte owned back in 1993 Yup your right -just found this one .Honestly never saw black one before  Don't go by the seats.My mate had a 8v with the rainbow trim.This was done when new at the factory.I have seen a lot of 8v's with the 16v's interior.The steering wheels is one way to tell (again this could of been changed).The 8v has GTE in the center cap and I think is NOT a leather wheel.The 16v has GTE 16v in the center cap and IS leather. Yes -just spotted this one -wondering if all 8v got the 16v interior on later models as standard?
