Give it whitewalls and colour the roof the same as the wheels NO! It has to run blackwalls! ...although it were mine I'd have a set of 17" Rallyes and low-profiles on sometimes to make people hate me!

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Nah that a split exhaust system with corks, that trumpet is blocked normally with a plate, and another tube runs from the trumpet through silencers to the back. When you want it loud and fast just uncork it and let it wail!

It's not just the hot rod scene that suffers from becoming a playground for the guys with the budget, I've often had that concern about motorsports and about different car scenes. Maybe it's just because I'm a conniving red, but I definately think that a scene loses something when it becomes about people who do that for a living and have effectively infinite budgets, they're nice to see in a kind of "what can be done" sort of a way, and there's no doubt that some of these professional customisers show real ingenuity in the cars they build, but if a scene consists too much of that sort of thing then you miss out on a different kind of ingenuity, i.e. a guy who only messes about with cars as a hobby, as such can't spend a lot at once, doesn't have a massive, well equipped workshop with all the equipment he could possibly need, a full time staff with all the skills he needs and all the rest of it, and can't fork out a huge amount of money to buy brand new parts direct from the manufacturer, so instead he makes do with what he can find, adapts stuff to fit, and shows ingenuity in that he's making something impressive with the limited time, money, equipment and skill that he has availible to him. I'd much rather see a show populated by ordinary people with ordinary lives, who have made an admirable effort and created a retro motor that isn't the fastest, the most innovative, the most technologically advanced, the prettiest or anything like that, but is cool nonetheless, than a show populated by cars that are breaking records and treading new ground, but cost a hundred grand or more to build and had a professional team behind them. Ideally I like to see a show that has both, the groundbreaking showcar stuff, but the ingenious, underdog stuff as well.
I agree as well that it would be nice if shows had more variety in the brands of cars too, custom car magazines have this problem too, too much of the "This car was customised by <Insert legendary and incredibly rich and well equipped customiser here> in California and bought on ebay and imported" and not enough of local guys/girls in Escorts and Vivas and the like.
As I said, there's a place for the stuff shipped straight from California, but there should also be a place for less exotic and extravant stuff, and I think that the reason a scene that excludes such stuff will invariably suffer long term is that potential new recruits will be scared off. In the absence of anything they can relate to, a young petrolhead looks at a custom mag or goes to a show and sees lines and lines not of cars he could buy and mods he could do himself, but flash stuff that he knows he'll never own, and he decides that rather than getting that Escort and tinkering in his spare time, he'll get into debt over a Corsa SXi and go down the bodykit/stereo road instead, because the Corsa lads make him feel welcome, have cars he can aspire to and understand, and have similar budgets to himself. As such the shows'll get smaller and smaller until nobody's interested in infinite budget showcars anymore.

I keep hearing these old dudes talking about the "rat-rod" trend. Usually, they aint too happy. The socalled "new" trend, is really the genuine hot-rod, where kids bought cheap old cars with as big a engine they could find, and then they stripped them of any heavy "useless" parts. (like fenders, extra seats, door covers, windscreens..... ) I`m all for the "rat-look"... Would love to see more rat-bikes, bobber style.. And brit bikes, with clip on handles and so on... (all new in the bikeworld too, but i hope you get my point, i like them clean and mean. Stripped of any useless curse word )
