Fantastic vids, thanks for those. That Torana is viscious, I love the way that the Australians do quarter track burnouts, and they all seem to be called Spud. At the Quit Motorplex in Perth there's an area next to the track called the Snake Pit where they have burnout competitions and they have a Whoop Ass Wednesday race evening too. Kind of makes 'run what ya brung' pale in comparison. It's a damn shame drag racing is regulated against so heavily in this country ;D
780bhp no gas? isnt that a YB engine? if so tell all the rallycross boys where he got that built, they will all want to know. The most ive heard out of a YB is around 800bhp and that was a rebuild every 80 yards!
Does anyone remeber the ford focus drag car that was around a few years ago? it ran a BDT evolution with around 1100bhp?
Ive got the article in custom car from ages ago, it was built as a drag engine but they are super strong anyways. There are pikes peak rs200's running 900bhp ish and thats for a good long run not short blast, so it would be possible.
It was running a massive charge cooler packed with dry ice, 8 injector setup, and a MASSIVE turbo! ill ask my dad nicely to see if he can find the article, as its at home and I'm not!

Yeah I remember the Focus, it was part funded by Ford as a promotion for the new car. The engine and chassis setup came from the guy's previous car which was a silver Probe. That ran 7's if I recall. Previous to that there was a guy called John Tebenham who ran a street legal RS200 engined Anglia. That dipped well into the 9's but on street treads and through the mufflers on petrol. Was seriously mental and popped wheelies in every gear through lack of weight. It eventually headed towards the sky one day at 140 or something and met it's maker. Looked like a real wild ride!
That right, it was a probe and then ford gave some funding to have it run in the US with a focus body, was very early in the sport compact times and the Yanks didnt appreciate the lil 4 cylinder beating their V8's!!

Was originally a Sprint, ran up to 280bhp on the Sprint engine, then that was the limit (if I remember correctly, 240bhp at the wheels or at the fly, one of those). Owner has had it for an awfully long time!
