The Old Street branch of the Classic Car Club held an open evening last night, so me and the missus popped down to see if we could test drive anything interesting.
We were among the first to arrive, so we got out on the road straight away in a 1963 Volvo Amazon 122S.
Beautiful condition, but actually surprisingly tricky to drive at first - the combination of cold engine that was unwilling to rev with accelerator that felt like stepping on a cushion and clutch that acted like an on/off switch made me look a bit of a tit as I chugged out of the garage and into the London rush hour traffic, but it made it all the more rewarding when I got the hang of it!
After that, we went out in this beautiful 1969 Mercedes 280SL Pagoda.
I totally fell in love with it, from the creamy-smooth straight-six to the dash that looked like it belonged in a fifties diner, it was a gorgeous little thing. And now I really want one.
You can see the rest of their fleet here.
Here are some pics I took of their garage - apologies for the rubbish quality of them, my camera is curse word in the dark.
There's the 280SL on the left!
...to make up for the poor quality of my own pics, here's some more I nicked from their website fleet list.
