Here is a pic of a photo i took years ago of an african friends Mazda B2200 van: It was a shed underneath but he just kept patching it up for every mot for 7yrs. Was blue then repainted purple, inside was carpet everywhere with a sofa in the back......and a portable tv in the dash . Now sadly scrapped

Yes its a thread revival! With the recent new thread with a properly cool Hiace and the revival of the Dodge jdm vans it has lead me on an internet search frenzy with many hours spent trawling through sites, along the way finding inspiration for a new project ;D Then after deciding my next project is a jdm based van I started looking around, and not finding much - a lot of its gone these days either rotted away or been snapped up for export which seems to be the thing these days. The flipside of this is that the price of even knackered vans without t&t has gone through the roof of like £1k upwards So it has got me wondering about looking at alternatives, either buying from mainland europe if possible if you can even find them, or looking at the more newer stuff such as the Mazda E2000's and using a retro theme or a Hyundai H100 which is an L300 mitsi with a different nose on it but with the benefit of slightly more modern mechanicals although both vans are dated by normal standards, they are still based on the classic one-box design which is a win-win. Looked at finding a Bedford/Vauxhall Midi too, although finding examples of modded ones is impossible, although there a few dotted about at the moment - they may have potential yet! Anyway, I might be completely insane and have got it completely wrong but here's a mixed up example of what i mean... I thought this... Plus front end and other ingredients off one of these... Would equal something akin to this... I could be completely wrong, and also a bit insane ;D Please tell me I could be onto something - have some pic's for your troubles...

As a matter of fact..... As well as... I've been trying to find out more on these but with no luck. I don't know if i'm typing in the orrect search term but I just can't find anything. I can't believe there's no on-line club or forum for these considering they have quite a following but i'm just drawing a blank on it at the mo I wanted a bay window too but taking into account the astronimical cost of these things nowadays old skool j-tin is a viable alternative, if a little harder to come by

Been thinking the same thing - in fact i've just done it and bought a L300 van 2001 (so last of the old shape) It's the long wheelbase version and it's currently been converted to a campervan. Only yesterday I went and bought a load of bits off a Delica to upgrade the inner trim - Long term plans are to lower suspension and differant wheels etc. I've not posted in readers threads due to age (thought it might be a bit new) but the design did come out on the UK in 1986 so may qualify LOL

I went past a 51 reg yesterday - it looks no different to the mid 80's ones ;D Looked kinda weird on such a late reg I might go down the h100 route as they're easier to come by and cheap too with decent standard kit, a front end swap would be the first mod as they look awkward with the round lights and rounded bumper. I think you need to put a post up, its still an old skool motor in design and would give us inspiration fella ;D ;D ;D

My log back states 2001 (declared manufactured 2000) I suspect to get round the tax issues but not 100% sure. I looked at the H100 as you say more plentiful but I just had to get the Mitsubishi and yes the H100 is an awkward looking thing.! But it's doable. I went to strip a Delica yesterday and it had the later wide headlamp / grill arrangement so woudn't be a difficult swap. I'll stick to mine as it is though .. I'll start a readers rides on it but not yet as i'll wait till some progress starts - i'm in the hands of the camper conversion company as they are doing it as an 'as and when' job to keep the costs down.

Have you got any more info on this? I'm trying to find out the forums and info on as many as these as possible but its difficult! Google translator is my new friend! Looks to me like its had some kind of lowering, I know on the hijets you can't get them properly low due to the rear axle setup but it looks to me like its running Honda acty 10" roms which make it look even lower. I'm sure I will corrected by someone more educated than me on these things if I'm wrong....
