Hello all, I've lately been looking at mopeds. I was just denied a Honda P90 Cub because if had a seized engine, so thats my plans out of the window. The reason I want something like a cub, is because of the things that the japanese have managed to do with them - I.e: I don't like the idea of a scooter because all modern scooters are ugly as cack, and I only really like vespa style things - and they cost a small fortune at the moment, but then if you have pictures that could sway my decision, feel free to post them up. What I'm asking is, what are the alternatives? I cant afford much, and I want something to modify... Cheers for reading, Jono.

Right, i''ve had to type this twice because it got moved just as i pressed 'post reply' >_<.
Ive seen that thread, its where i got my inspiration.
I want a cub 90, but to be honest, they are a lot for what i need.
Seeing as a cub 90 is about £450 for a modernish one (the uglier type), you have to bear in mind that i would be removing a majority of the stock parts to emulate something similar to above, even just the frame is £125, and thats too much for a frame in my opinion.

But now it's in the correct section, the only folks to view it are those more likely to give advice!

C90 Cubs go for more than equivalent bikes because, they are really good bikes (arguably way better than anything else similar) and people know this. However, I saw someone ask £350 for a high ish miles one with no MOT and needing work, I think that is taking the pee a little. They are about, I got an E reg one for a nothing a while back after I saw it sitting in an open garage as I drove past. (Gave him a case of beer though)

I used to have a cub, sold it years ago to a bloke for £150, no tax or MOT, I think Its still sat where I parked it in his garage. They are pretty cool looking bikes anyway I reckon but those modded ones are ace.
I also had a blue Honda vision once, I stripped all the decals and luggage frame off and it looked much better, (dropped it in the snow, doh)

Ah that bantam is brilliant, that could very well be on the cards . Puch ones could be cool, with the right amount of work, do get a link up, and thankyou both for your conributions! I'm loving the bantam though, i could get one of those and do some serious work.

Also look at SACHS Madass, comes in 50cc and 125cc flavour, Suzuki engines IIRC. So perfect for a 16 year old. Though, at a lardy 47 years old, I would love one. Sachs Beast... prototype, not sure it made it into production, bit of a dog in my view. Or there is a RC303. Madass 50. How cool as standard. Next up.... Yamaha. QT50 - Shaft drive 50cc, google a bit for Youtube links, there are loads.

I think Cubs are getting a bit like VDubs...plenty of 'scene tax' added. check local rags, bargain pages, newsagents etc, you might find 1 that someone doesn't know the exploited value of it

Well, it's not helpful to you, and you may already know this, but here in Australia we have our own version of the Cub which is still in production in Japan, solely for sale to Australia Post, the Honda CT110. Currently in daily use all over Australia for postal deliveries. They're ideal for postal work because the lack of a manual clutch leaves the rider's left hand free to post letters as they ride around on the footpath. Australia Post sells them at auction once they reach about 40,000km. Bear in mind that the majority of this is travelled with a load of about 120kg or so, stopping every 15 metres to post letters into each letterbox! They're highly prized for their excellent reliability and go for about $1000 second-hand. Very cool bikes. Of course ours look a bit more modern, which they are, due to telescopic forks and CDI ignition. Here are some wild people who race them: www.postiebikes.com/And some even wilder people who do long-distance tours on them: www.postiebikechallenge.org/

Ah no thats a lovely story, I like the telescopic forks they have, getting hold of ones similar to the ones shown at the start of the topic is going to be difficult/expensive! Cheers for the input
