Thought i'd start a bit of a thread of my W123 280E. I bought the car for £50 ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) , a couple of years ago, I intended using it as a parts car. That is until I got it home and had a good look round it. It turned out to be far to good to break, it has 143k on the clock and is pretty mint inside(cream moo cow!!). The last owner took it off the road approx 4 years ago after the left front coil spring broke, it sat on his drive, then I came along. I'm now starting to get it back on the road ;D. So here's some pictures of it now (before)... ![](http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s21/fha772/130820091308.jpg) ![](http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s21/fha772/130820091306.jpg) ![](http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s21/fha772/130820091320.jpg) The plan is as follows: 1) lower it (on a set of spax springs for now, then even more later) 2) sort the bodywork(new front wings being sprayed as we speak) 3) Fit bigger alloys(17"x12" mercedes ML alloys to start with, cos i've got them) 4) Turbo the engine(Yes that's right, it's getting a Toyota Supra turbo, we should see 300BHP+ out of it!!) ;D So far I have spent approx £480 on buying it and parts, and have very little left to buy to complete it. I will update this as I go, your comments/advice are very welcome. PS, does anybody have a good driver's door going cheap?

Welcome to RR! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Fifty quid? Result! I reckon it'll come up really nice with some T-Cut and elbow grease. Panels for these are fairly cheap and available from Hadrian (as I'm sure you know), or you can get them from Mercedes if you're feeling flush! I don't know how well the doors hold up on W123's, but if they're anything like my W115 then lots of doors have gone the same way. I ended up repairing my existing doors. Are you turbocharging the Benz engine, or putting a Supra turbo engine in the car? Either way, sounds awesome!

I'm keeping it Benz power, just more power!!
I have a friend who has been doing turbo conversions for about 20 years. He has turbo'd several 280 G-Wagens, 1 has been running 20PSI of boost for nearly 14 year now, with no problems. On standard internals!! He has told me that, when stripped, the Merc M110, 280E engine, and the 2.8 Nissan Skyline engine are identical. He beleives that Nissan copied the Benz engine for their Twin Turbo monster. And from what i've seen he could well be right (Nissan pistons and rods fit the Merc block, we slid 1 into a G-Wagen block to see).
I'm looking at around 10PSI of boost , which should give me around 325BHP according to John's sums.
The driver's door is the only problem door, and that looks like it's been opened into something and that's what's caused the rot to take hold. The arches have started to bubble, but the rest of the body is pretty much mint, and should T-Cut. The front wing in the picture has only gone that bad because when the spring broke the guy drove it 20 miles home and burned the paint off it then left it for 2 years on his drive.
I got a wing and a bonnet off of a guy on the PPC forum (cheers Max) and another from a breakers in sheffield for a total spend of £25.
So i just need a door for the right money now (or free!!).

He hasn't turbo'd a 560, but we have been talking about "Project Panzerschreck", my 560SEC. That will be getting twin turbo's and an obscene amount of boost!! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) As far as the springs go, i have got a set of Spax springs, i bought off a lad in Chesterfield, BNIB for £70.

That's really interesting about the similarities between the M110 and Skyline lump. I'm going to be keeping a close eye on this project! ;D

We've had the 560SEC for about 10 years, it was my dad's now it's mine(once the tin worm set in!!). He's moved onto tuning a 1989 Bentley Turbo R that we both own (190+MPH here we come!!) If you look at my avvie, that's the Bentley behind my 1968 Daimler 250 V8, and if it was bigger, you'd also see our 1962 Alvis TD21. (we have approx 26 cars/projects!!)

Love the Alvis. I would like to restore something like that some day. Why don't you start a restoration thread for it on here. I need something new to motivate me now tonybmw has finished the welding on the Vauxhall!

All interesting stuff.
I like your collection - Scammell is nice but the Courier needs more than T-cut!
Also fascinating about the 280 engine. I don't know much about Mercs but I would guess a manual w123 280 is quite rare, so that's a good find. Is it 4 or 5 speed?
I'm looking forward to the updates.
John

The courier is actually in quite good condition, it's amazing how the camera can lie! The previous owner had bought it for the engine and interior for his herald-based kitcar,. Once I got it home and had a day bolting the roof section back on and gave it ahold sweep out, it turned out to be fairly solid and doesn't need very much welding at all. I'm just deciding wether to fit a Herald/Vitesse engine & box, or to go for a more modern set up.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys!!;D
The Bentley's great fun, it'll sit all day at 160+mph, and we're planning a chargecooler and adjusting the boost, which should be enough to push her close to 200mph.
And all from a car that cost us about £5K less than a new Ford Focus (including a full colour change re-spray!!!).
I've also got my eye on a flood damaged Bentley Turbo for £3K, this'll be fully stripped and turned into a drift/trackday car!! If the deal goes through.
I'll post a few pictures of the Alvis up later, in another thread, but most of the mechanics are done, and although the car still looks the same on the outside(I've just welded the body enough to pass a MOT), it is almost ready to MOT. It won't be pretty but i'll be on the road, then next year, once I know the mechanics are right, it'll get the bodywork done(wing sides and rear quarters are over £600 each, and it needs all 4!!). so I could do with using it for a while before I spend £4K+ on the body/re-spray.

This is 1 of the old wheels off of the ML500, that I'm going to trail fit onto the Merc. Slight mistake, the wheel is 17"x10.5"(not 12"). 1 problem i've got though, paint or polish? ![](http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s21/fha772/Picture174.jpg)

I've added a poll, because i can't decide what to do with these wheels.
Shall i re-paint or polish them?
I leave it to your judgement...

I voted Polish
I also vote that your dog is awesome (large slice of Dogue de Bordeux in there)
further more I motion that your car collection is suitably bonkers.
