It's quite likely that in a few hours, I'm off with a mate to go and look at this: not a great pic, but it's a Renault camper, Diesel one. It's not for me but he's clueless when it comes to looking cars over, although I'm not much better! ;D Anyone any experience of them? Known weak points? It's not going to be quick is it ;D

If it's a 1600 check that the cooling system isn't gassing as there was a batch of 'porus' heads and finding a good secondhand head can be a problem as the did 4 different types (all with the same number.... ) which don't all fit all blocks I think they then went to 1870cc. Generally it's a good reliable engine that has good economy when driven gentley, but they can be a bit smokey. Heater matrix gets gunged up and is a pain to replace. Check sills for rust.

Test how fast it'll take a corner before it goes onto two wheels! What's the asking price out of interest?

I'd be more worried about the caravan bolted on its RS... make sure you prod the walls, look in all the corners top and bottom, under the seats and make sure the floor doesn't sag when you walk on it...Damp is a killer especially in an older Caravan/Camper...and very expensive to repair properly..

is the front like: an odd looking "5"? i agree, damp ruins campers and caravans like that. also, check down the backs of the sofas, and make sure that the guy buying it / selling it is suitably old and slow enough.

Yeah, it's like the pic above only with a full-width black plastic grille, it's a G-Reg. Absolutely MINT inside in the back, NO damp patches, no signs of any significant wear, just needed a new tap for the sink. Sills were rock solid, floor was all sound (took a rubber mallet and bashed away ) just at the base of the windscreen, it's been bodged and filled but not really a big deal. Engine seemed OK, no signs of mayo or gassing in the water. He paid £1000 for it! I drove it back, 120 miles, not a problem for it Bit slow up hills mind ;D I think he got himself a good deal, and filling up with diesel on the way back a bloke offered me £1500 for it there and then, and I've just got in from a few of us going out in it, where another bloke offered him £1200 there and then... NASTY curtains though ;D
