So, myself and the lady have chopped in our air miles and are heading to stay with friends in New York in March. Can anyone recommend any good car places to visit? We have a whole week there so we can fit in all of her shopping antics and I can still have a day to do my own things - I'm just not sure what to do! Any ideas anyone? Have some American Muscle as a thank you

Porsche 924 - gone Citroen Saxo VTR - not very retro but I loved it - now gone... MK4 Golf GTi 1.8T - gone but hardly remembered... Mini Cooper S R53 - gone BMW 125d Coupe - gone (mostly sideways)
Ford Focus RS Mk1 - hello low MPGs and "wanna race me" at every set of lights... 1973 BMW 2002 - Twin 40's, 284 Cam, Revolutions, E21 Recaros + more Porsche Cayman 987 3.4S - here and due to cost me more money than I have

New York, what? State? or NYC? If state, where exactly? It's a fairly big state as states go.

Will have a think, I've been a few times but not sure I did much car stuff. Not car related again, but Ellis Island is well worth a visit, very interesting indeed.

You trip doesn't spill over into April does it? New York Motor Show - 2nd April www.autoshowny.com/All modern stuff - but interesting to see models we don't get over here. Not car related but the Brooklyn Brewery on a Friday night is a good place to go. ;D

It will be NYC, Manhattan to be precise but we were thinking of hiring a car for a few days and doing a road trip. Thanks for the heads up everyone else - the Rockefeller Centre and Ellis Island are both on the list and I may well have to make a trek to www.futureclassicsnj.com/index.cfm with the fella of the couple we are visiting.

AFAIK you don't have to travel far out of NYC to get to towns who have regular cruises. We met up with a family over the river in New Jersey about 40mins out and they were going to take us to a local cruise, sadly it rained so we didn't bother.

It will be NYC, Manhattan to be precise but we were thinking of hiring a car for a few days and doing a road trip. All my points are good, including my pointy head! But to the matter at hand. Get the hell out of NYC if you want to see lots of car stuff. There are a few auto art galleries, ubercar dealerships, some stuff at MOMA, and the occasional hoity-toity Ferrari or Pooch club meet at an open-air cafe or blocked-off alley. The real New York automotive meat and potatos ain't in NYC, it's at places like these: Motor Racing research Center, Watkins Glen NY Northeast Classic Car Museum, Norwich NY Saratoga Auto Museum, Saratogo Springs NY Buffalo Transport Museum, Buffalo NY DIRT Hall of Fame, Weedsport NY Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Rhinebeck NY Orange County Choppers, Newburgh NY Don't forget New Jersey and Pennsylvania destinations as well! And there's lots of poof bars in NYC if you want to chase down the BMW crowd! ;D

Don`t take your lady into Macy`s or Century 21 - you`ll never get her out. Visit St.Pauls church near Ground Zero for a moving experience. Not much car related stuff going on in the centre but as TB says get out of Manhattan for car events. I loved just standing in Times Square and watching the madness of the world passing by. There are cars in the picture !

The list of non car related stuff to do is almost endless but I'd recommend the Intrepid Air/Space museum and then next to that the Beast speedboat ride. Late night open top bus tour is good weather permitting.
I also heartily recommend Lous cafe near the Rockafella for breakfast.
If you do go to Coney Island it's the law to eat a Nathans hot dog. There's also a monster truck ride there sometimes.
I found NYC itself great for car spotting, all sorts to keep you entertained.
