Just been on the time attack forum and apparently in the N/A class there will be an ex-Matt Neal BTCC civic, yikes. I think if I were to do it it would definitely be for fun as I do not have endless cash, I would think to stand a rough chance then ex race cars are the way forward and pray that they don't get outlawed eventually. Like nearly all motorsport to win you need to spend cash, probably lots of it. However to have fun is much cheaper The thing with the Time Attack class structure is that it lends itself to our habit of engine swapping whereas most other motorsport puts you in the same class as single seaters and other specialist machines.

I'm thinking of prepping a Starlet GT for the FWD class, can't think of many better base cars for that class. Not many cars involved in the front wheel drive class but the 3 I know of are: Supercharged Civic type r. Turbocharged Alfa 155 Fiat coupe 20vt They are all immensely tuned and go like buggers, just check out the specs of the cars, the list of mods is endless and the money spent to be competitive must be frightening! To be honest, nothing mentioned in this thread would be a potential winner... But the fun to be had would be immense, although it goes against the grain, if you could lock the competitive element away in your brain and enjoy being on track with some incredible machinery, then this makes sense. However, there's then an element of why not just do a high-end track day? I'm all for getting involved, but I'm also realistic and having been involved in the UK events I know the drivers, money and prep that you'd be up against

Personally I'd love to see it happen, I think it's a great spectacle and a 420bhp Sunny would look magic I just know from what I've seen even the lower spec stuff has still had thousands thrown at it and sometimes that's just suspension

At the Pentagon, the generals would call this discussion "mission creep".
Based on what Rich and Kee said about RRG09, you basically ALREADY did "Time Attack", except a standing start version of it. Why add defecation complications? For RRG10, simply go to a rolling start, and BOOM, "dah it is"! What did BC and crew charge for the Haynes track laps? Notta? Or a fiver? Or some such bargainaceousness?
Go forth and roll yer own. You even had the food court's semi tractor doing standing-start "Time Attack" runs FFS! It don't get much more bitchin' than that! You already HAVE the formula, maybe even a better one, from cost POV. Just roll with it! Thumbs up, RR!

Time attack was impossible on the circuit due to the lay out and the way we were driving it, the format worked well because we could get decent time on track, only one car at a time, and also have a fast turn over of cars because the start and finish were in seperate places.

Because there is no official timing on the track. It is an untimed event, unlike the Time Attack. Re Classes. I'd see our stuff more in the Club Car Class : www.timeattack.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/club-car-regs-2009.pdf ... the Pro classes are just that: serious business.

^^David, was pretty sure I saw a timetable posted up on the forum that showed timed results from RRG09. Wasn't an Escort top dog, or something like that? EDIT: Here's the post-mortem discussion: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rrg09&action=display&thread=65931&page=1I see what you were saying about "live" times being provided and insurance requirements, David, in this thread. Versus, keeping times from being "officially" posted up in real time. But it seems you did keep times, and a tally was made of who did what, from this discussion. I can't find the table of results, but it's probably in the RRG09 section somewhere. Hope this helps, because BC even discusses reasons for running the sprint format as opposed to time attack format, right at the top in his opening remarks. Good read. Norm

Norm, the timing at RRG was 'unofficial' 10-4, cheers, Kee. See my EDIT ^^. I found BC's post-mortem report where he discussed virtues of sprint v. time attack formats. Good reading that. Norm
