Well earlier this week I posted this car - It was built to compete under the time attack rules, where you have a single hot lap that is timed for position. Now I love the things, they really float my boat with all the aero and mental tuning. They seem to be along the group 5 rules, almost silhouette type cars, the unlimited class has no restrictions on the engine or aero, anything goes! So here are a few pics that I have found, and a couple of videos too ;-) Cheers J This subaru is just mental, I think the time attack needs more publicity as it is an awsome spectator sport

That Subaru is campaigned by Roger Clark's son Olly I believe. This is one of my favourites, the 5Zigen Accord Type-R.

So, have I got this right? The idea is to build the fastest track car you can build, no holds barred, no limits. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely get on this... One of the best spectator events I went to last year, Time Attack at Brands Hatch. The variety of machinery on track is incredible... They're lapping quicker than touring cars. 6R4, modified Lotus Exige, BMWs. CHeck it www.timeattack.co.uk

And you'll notice none of these unlimited cars have huge camber, colostomy coolers, or big stretch. Rational conclusions may therefore be drawn from this. Because successful racing is the ultimate expression of what really works.

America has had this for 25 years, in SCCA, known as Solo 1. In NASA known as TT. It's also the format for qualifying at the Indy 500, the flying lap, preceded by warm-up, followed by cool-down. Some NASCAR events are also qualified using this method for determining the race grid. The spectating can be a "bit" dull, as only one car blats through at a time, like Carb Day at the 500. For the driver, it's obv quite exciting nonetheless. Norm

Gobstopper is the best Impreza ever. So unassuming compared to the J stuff but properly quick. Matt

on the gobstopper, have they dropped the entire body over the wheels and then raised the arches? It just looks so much lower than a stock one, but without lot's of tuck?

Sooooo.... trip out to see this at some point? Any of the London lot up for a Brands visit? I spoke to the organisers last year and they are very keen on older cars taking part... the unlimited rules really suit our kind of modifications (you know, stretched tyres, massive negative camber, no thought to performance that all the cars on here have ) that stop us competing in other motor sport so easily. Maybe time to see if I can track down that 400bhp SR20DET to put in the Sunny again .....

Great thread! This has somehow passed me by, which is made more impressive by the fact I've been looking (admittedly not very hard) for something like this in the UK for a while.
Dunno about the London lot, but I'd definitely be up for a visit to a Brands/Silverstone visit. Totally my cup of tea!
