Can anyone identify this engine??? The guy says its a crossflow, but it has an alloy head? Its a 1600 apparently, and it is in a Mk3 Escort imported from Brazil. What do you reckon?

1700 "kent" engine from brazil a tuner from down south did import thease in the late 80s early 90 remember reading about them in FAST CAR before it went all tits n chave cross flow usually means the mixture crosses the piston from the inlet to the exaust so its not hence the name crossflow

Definitely not a crossflow. Exhaust is on the wrong side and the distributor is on the wrong side and wrong place.
Is this the one called the Valencia which was in some of the Fiestas and Escorts? I can't find information about it on Google but I'm sure it's out there.

don't think its the valencia, my engines a valencia, given that name as it was where they were first produced, valencia just looks like a mini x'flow but inlet and outlet are on opposite sides

Some bits look abit VW Golf-esque? Ford collaborated with VW in Brazil - VW released a car called the Apollo (I seem to remember from a thread on here a while back) Which was basically a 2 door MK3/4 Escort with a boot, a VW engine and some VW badges - maybe some VW parts found themselves on the Ford version too?

whatever it is its not common. and imo not ford europe either
Maybe the brazilians adapted an engine from another manufacturer, they have a habit of doing weird things like that.

Never seen one before Read the bit about it in wikipedia and one thing that struck me. I didnt realise ford had used a rotary valved engine in any road car before. From what I remember reading about rotary valves they were a curse word to keep sealed.

this is the only photo of a mazda OHV engine I can find. They stopped making them in the early 70's when they switched to OHC engines.

Never seen one before Read the bit about it in wikipedia and one thing that struck me. I didnt realise ford had used a rotary valved engine in any road car before. From what I remember reading about rotary valves they were a b*gg*r to keep sealed. I though all 'conventional' engines have rotating valves, normally the cam or rocker lobe acts to turn the valve a little bit each 'push' in order to help even out wear. Would anyone else like to confirm or deny that?
