I've just swapped engines on my 106 (That makes 10 engines over my last 4 cars :S) and when it came to putting the clutch back together, I ended up using a ~3000 mile pressure plate, and a friction plate that had plenty of meat on it, looked almost new. It was all in good condition visually.
I put it all together, it started fine and ran nice, then I came to set off home. Put the boot down and the revs flew up. I thought "wow, so much power it's wheelspinning, perhaps the road might be a bit greasy"
Then the same in second gear...
then I realised...![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png)
The clutch was slipping like mad - Driveable but only just.
Has anyone done the same? It seemed to get a tiny bit better over the drive home. I guess that the clutch friction plate has worn to suit it's old cover, and doesn't match the new one. I gave it some hammer (to try and wear it in) over the space of the 5 mile drive, avoiding getting it too hot, but even 1/4 throttle makes it spin up like mad.
I'm pretty much going to just take it apart and stick a new clutch in tomorrow unless someone can say "oh yeah, I did that, it slipped like an alsation on laminate flooring for 2 days, then it was fine"
I knew I shouldnt have listened to "aah, use this friction plate its better quality, and use that cover, it's got bigger springs"![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)
