wondered if anyone on here has struggled to get a steering wheel re done in new leather?
a mate has started to do them and hopes to be competetive on pricing
if youve had any quotes what kinda ££ was it ?
any ideas where he could advertise for cheap? would it be best to run a for sale ad on here too?

construction of wooden Mountney wheel is a bit different to the padded one. You'd most likely be better selling it and buying a padded/leather one...

Hi everyone, as steve has kindly said i have just started doing steering wheels, i work with leather as my main occupation, but as business has been slow i've started doing steering wheels as something on the side. I'm trying to be as reasonable as i can with my prices, most trimmers will charge £150-£200 to do a steering wheel, i hope to be about half that £70-£100. As steve has said, if you post a pic or send me one via e-mail i'll get back to you with a price.
anisotropy, the bmw wheel you have posted there is no problem at all, I could do that for £70 (inc return p+p), If you want to send me an e-mail we can talk about exactly what you want.
Heres my e-mail for anyone who wants to inquire about anything:
uel_friedman@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks.

If he is proper cricket stitching them, then that is a really good price! Stretching the leather is such a time consuming process, as is getting it all looking just so around the spokes!

Would be worth putting up on www.mantaclub.org too. The exclusive ones are mostly all past their best these days. Can you do steering wheels that have quarters such as this one? (not mine BTW, pulled off a google search ) Good luck with the venture. Retrimming steering wheels is an especially demanding skill least of all to get the leather tight enough and looking right.
