yeah - even if the EU regs wont allow it, could you not bring it over here to the uk, put it through an IVA test, get it uk registered, then just personally import it to switzerland?
- like you would if you bought a rod in the states and imported it? - or is it not that simple??
excellent project though -any more pics of the body?

But as i'm typing this, I remember it's an european law, is Switzerland in the EU? Switzerland isn't an EU member state, so that might well be a no-no :-( Pity, because the idea's a cracker. Good luck with the build!

Bet this'll be interesting Engine wise i'd look into aluminium forging, and make some old-school finned valve covers, and build a tunnel ram-inspired intake and put a proper 4 barrel carb on top of that bmw lump ;D Add some cool headers and an old air cleaner to that and you've got yourself an engine that'll look the part big time ;D The body looks to have huge amount of potential, and if you go hoodless, or without hood sides i hope you'll incorporate the super-cool air outlets on the doors, or cut the hood sides below them. Some rake on both body and roof would be fitting, and a dropped I-beam front axle. Damn this'll be cool ;D

I just put some slightly better pictures to the start post . . just noticed that the lighting in my workshop is close to useless Switzerland is not part of the EU . . so re-importing your own car is not gonna help with the registration . . but maybe the laws change in the next ten years . . so if that thing is street-ready then, I'm good ;D

I hope the legislation does change! To me, it'd be like having a smokin' hot girl in the bedroom and not being allowed to bang her! ;D The build will be great fun I think!

The older BM's get, the more I seem to like them, and this is no exception. Great find, looking forward to following your progress

It sounds like an uphill struggle in Switzerland to be into building cars. That kind of money for simple conversion such as putting an M30 in an E30 is just silly. I feel for you.
However the project you have planned is just awesome. And I like that E12 you have. I want one to park next to my E28.

Great project. I love the shape of the car; it will make an excellent rod.
As for the legality issue: you build it, bring it to my place (UK), we get it legal here, job done. (Oh, and you can fly over and borrow it whenever you like!)
Seriously, good luck with the project.
